It's the aftermarket wickerbill and/or the Camaro driver holding back at the top end.

I had a GT before they went with the DI/PI setup the have now. It was rated at 435hp I think. I feel the difference with this 455/455 LT1 setup and I prefer the low end mid range torque of the SS over the GT. I hated the feel as if no one was home until about 4K rpm in the GT. However once it got there, it was pretty impressive taking it to just over 7000rpm in the GT. These cars are setup differently and it depends on how u use your car. I do like high rpm setups and wish GM would take the LT1 to 7k. I think a few limitations are AFM internals and the fuel efficiency standards. So for me the answer is yes it holds back just a little on the top end. But based on the video it’s hard to say could have been the driver.

I would say that the gearing has something to do with the Mustang getting the SS on top end but it’s hard to say if the driver of the SS was holding back the way I see it! The SS has 3.73 gears and I don’t know what comes in the Mustang and that’s why the Camaro got him out of the hole but he caught the SS on the top end. And of course 4 cams vs one males a difference too for higher rpms when racing. Ford always seems to have more hp than Chevy and I don’t know why Chevy didn’t up the hp on the Camaro to make it more competitive with the Mustang. I guess that’s what the ZL1 is for.

Yes, prob dohc on the gt and the camaro driver holding back, but the gt driver’s reaction made me want to puke.

Yeah he was acting like a little kid talking about beating the Camaro. I guess his head was as big as his Mustang! Haha...

These races are just as much about the drivers as they are about the cars for better or worse.

We’ve seen this before with the Motor Trend H2H and the recent Throttle House.

In the H2H, given one mile and 150 mph, the GT beats the Camaro from a dig 30 out of 30 times.

In Throttle House, the GT lost in the 1/4 but the driver could feel it starting to pull. “a half mile is all I need” ... reply ....“you don’t have a half mile

The GT is weak down low where the Camaro is strong. The GT likes to rev (DOHC) and given room, will pull.

Roll racing? who gets the drop, and the venue, minimized the Camaro’s strength and the GT’s weakness. In a 1/4, the SS M6 will beat the GT M6 every time by several car lengths. ...with equal drivers

Where do you drive?

Time mark 3:50

It’s the limitations of a pushrod ohv engine , it’s not gonna beat a dohc up top. The lt1 isn’t pushing to 7k like the 5.0 is.
But then the camaro will have torque down low unlike the mustang , so pick your poison.
I’m happy with my torquey camaro.

I think most of that video was driver. I think around 120ish the Mustang will start pulling on the Camaro but it's a creep by and not as drastic as this video shows. Plus I might add that the Camaro still has a higher over all top speed.

The SS will need more top end oomph for 2020. Not sure what speeds they were at though.

Can't go to 7000k in the Pushrod. They will need to go to DOHC. But the top heavy engine would be physically and effect handling.

I don't think the coyote 5.0 is really that much heavier, it's all aluminum.
