My bet would be it gets totaled. Water damage effects on electrical parts can happen months down the road. The last thing your insurance is going to want is a running open tab of repairs on your car if they fix it initially and more things start popping up later.

I think the hogs are common over the eastern half of the state. Not so much out in the dryer parts of west Texas. A couple of years ago we had some come through our neighborhood and a few others nearby and root up a lot of the grass. Quite a mess.


Yes, TX130 is a good road. That's where Hennessey did the 203 mph in a Gen 5 ZL1 and 220 in a twin turbo CTS-V. Right before the road was opened. I did a quick "blow out the carbon" run over near Lockhart and hit 117 without even trying. Already 30 over the limit so time to back down. 150 would be easy.

It is the same thing as rear ending someone for following too close. The insurance still pays.

How deep was the water? Were other motorists stuck there as well? NO warning that you were about to enter a foot of water?

I guess it could be easy to miss if its dark outside which is when this happened, not sure...I havent seen standing water that deep at night before... it could be that he saw it and didn't realize it was that deep.

Wiring harness are more than likely fine. Sounds like you hydro locked the motor. You can drain and replace the oil (it's probably milky color), remove all of the plugs, pull the fuel pump fuse and bump it over a few times to see if that clears the cylinders. Also check the MAF sensor and air cleaner. Or you can let the insurance co deal with it.

haha dude if you only knew about the flash floods here in Houston. It was raining so hard I couldn't see the that the road was flooded( it typically doesn't). No one is blaming anyone. If they don't total it and they can't/won't make it right I can assure you it will find itself headliner deep in water the next time it rains. I'm not concerned about being stuck with a lemon at all. Not sure if it was quite a foot anyways as water did not spill over the bottom of the doors. Would have to measure how high the lip is from the ground, water was 3ish inches below that.

I was going to do all that but since I tried to crank it over a few times after I ingested the water I kind of assumed the compression of the water screwed something. I figured if Id take the cautious approach and let them handle it.

Turning it over with water probably did do any damage, seen it happen ALOT on the 3.8l in the Grand Prix's when the intake let go and bled coolant into all of the cylinders. I agree the harness's are fine, insulated wires and all of the connectors in that area are weather pack connectors and are pretty good at keeping water out. Like said, pull plugs and turn over, if it goes clank clank clank you broke a rod.

Unless you are having a heart attack or delivering a baby, I fail to see what is so critical about continuing to drive in a situation like that.
