I paid whatever the going rate is on the MRR 228s minus about 10%. 285 square because I want easy rotation of burner tires and for everything to fit inside the fenders. They look nice. I use the OE setup in summer. I REALLY wanted to buy the super cheap tires, the ones that are $100 each, just to try. I've never seen any credible complaints about these tires, and I plan on smoking all four in a year or so anyway. My little ones love doing burnouts from the back seat all day long. My tire dealer (I use the nearby Discount Tire, they are great here) gave me several reasonable reasons to not buy the cheap ones, and cut the price on the DWS06 in a good faith effort. I went that way. They always handle everything, from ordering the wheels (from anywhere) to mount and balance. The Conties' are great for beating around in the winter. I don't drive when things are wet, but they perform well below freezing in the Midwest on a rare sunny day. The power of the ZL1 is only usable in the summer on soft rubber, but these hook up reasonably well and I'm impressed by straight line traction and braking. I dont do high angle drifts in winter so I can't comment on that, but the stability system keeps the back end in line so far when I push it. They are well balanced for high speed. I have about 200 miles on them. I've used about every other high performance tire, including winter/snow on one car or another, and these tires deliver what I want on this camaro. FWIW, I have tracked cars frequently for decades and feel like a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to winter tires vs all season for a non snow driving enthusiast like myself. GT. |
