Interesting questions.

When I was "shopping" for my car I had 2 primary criteria. V8 and convertible. Pretty much everything else was negotiable. I hadn't given much thought to actually tracking the car. More on that later.

So that pretty much narrowed it down to SS Vert, ZL1 Vert (there is no 1LE Vert) or some trim level of Corvette Vert. I really liked the look, feel, and value of the 1LE, but no convertible option took it off the list. That, and I really had no plans to track the car. But still, a VERY attractive package.

Saw the Fifty package and it was pretty much game over. Got that. Wound up tracking it. Even so, I do not find myself wishing that I had gotten the ZL1 Vert instead of the SS Fifty Vert. 98% of my time in the car is spent NOT tracking it. When I do track it I have a ton of fun. In good weather I daily drive it. No, I can't claim trophies on the track or the strip, primarily because of my own limitations. I am sure I have not yet wrung out the full limitations of this car. For me, a ZL1 would have just been more headroom between my own limitations as a driver and the car's limitations as a track beast. So no ZL1 envy, no Grand Sport envy, no Z06 envy. If anything, I might have a twinge of 1LE envy, but more for the wheels/tires/Recaros/hood wrap than anything else.

Drive the regular SS, SS 1LE and ZL1. I drove a 2016 SS when they came out and wasn't impressed. The SS 1LE changes make the car much better in my opinion. To be fair, in 2.whatever years my tastes and standards may have changed some as well.

I don't have ZL1 envy... ZL1 1LE envy yes.. I have to admit, the additional power would be nice on track. On the street, I don't even use the SS to it's potential. No where close to it.

I don't DD the Camaro, but do have 5,800 miles or so on it in 8 months. Not a lot, but....

As for whether you should track the car or not, go to an event and ride in some Camaros. Most owners don't mind taking passengers in an HPDE. Heck, if you make it to Sebring this weekend come find me. (disclosure: Chin Track days does charge $20 for a rider wristband but you can ride with anyone willing to take out passengers)

Sadly depends on the dealer, but for a serious buyer, it won't be an issue.

Autonation would only consider letting me test driver one if I went through the financial paperwork first. I get it if I'm young, or drive up in a POS, but I drove up in my Focus RS and I'm not young.. that level of BS made me walk.

Worked out though, waited for a 2SS 1LE and had zero issues getting a test drive in that.

I upgraded from a 11 SS to a 13 1LE as my DD. I do live in AZ so, I was able to do this. No intention to ever track the car but, i have taken it up 89A to and from Jerome a couple of times and it's a blast. I'd like to upgrade to a 6th gen but i might need to wait till i come across a slightly used 1LE

I went in to look at an all black 2ss vert m6 and as nice as that car was, they had it parked next to my future 1le. The 1le really is an attractive package, the splitter, wheels, tires, spoiler, hood and mirrors just made it pop and stand out from other SS's. It had everything I would want to do to a 6th already on it (expect for side skirts and black bowties lol). The recaros are also great. It looks like a tastefully modded SS. I love the 1le, as a second choice it'd definately be a black 22ss vert but I'd slap some 1le wheels on it!

This is true, it depends on the dealer. Luckily the guys at dimmitt were test drive happy.

Test drove a 2019 miata mx5 in wesley chapel for like 30 minutes with a passenger and no salesman!

I test drove a 1LE today from Stonebriar Chevrolet in Frisco. I was really impressed. I had imagined a much harsher ride.

Which color? I had my eye on the gray one there a couple months ago.

I have owned a '16 M6 2SS with MRC and NPP and now in a ZL1 A10. If you do not plan to track the 1LE I would not buy one. While it is a track monster it might be a little too track as a daily. It is heavier than the standard SS and tires will crack in very cold temps. Still I think it can work for you. It is just you will be wasting $$.

Every standard SS is a world class handling car and is a better street track compromise. The 1LE will of course handle better @ 9/10ths and has better brake feel. Will you do 9/10s on the street? I hope not. The 1LE diff also will let you jump off track curbing at high speeds. But you add 40 pounds to the diff to get that. Does that make sense on the street? The standard SS has all the same 1LE track cooling and optional brake ducts, so if you decide on a fun track day, it will not let you down. It is a huge blast, but get the insurance. My friend flipped my 5th gen TT 1LE shiny side down at the track. He was fine but it cost me.

All that being said the ZL1 is a iron fist in a velvet glove. It has all the same suspension goodies as the SS 1LE, but here if you ever decide to track the car you want this stuff with all the speed it can generate. The ZL1 1LE is really for extreme trackers and definitely not a good daily. The standard ZL1 is a beast when you feel like being bad, but the rest of the time is just a blast to drive.

It also is a great long distance car. I drove mine this fall 2,500 miles in 5 days and the trip was a pleasure. It makes great noise and the occasional supercharger whine reminds you of what you spent your money on. I also will add that the A10 converted me from all of my years of buying manual performance cars. It adds a new dimension to driving a fast car. It has a little whine of its own as it is very beefed up for ZL1 duty. And bad boy performance mode is there at a tap of the loud pedal.

I can' think of any other car I would rather drive at any price. You might have greater status, but not more fun driving.

Don't drive a ZL1 (if any dealer lets you) unless you can afford to buy one.

What was your avg mpg in the ZL1 on that trip? I know when you get on it, mpg really plummets. But driving somewhat "normally", what do you average? 12-13mpg just gets old for me.

Except that the 1LE drives better all the time than a regular SS, even with MR, etc. I almost didn't look at 1LE's because I was so disappointed with the regular SS. Only some guys at the track convinced me to. Glad they did.

The tires are a fair point, but there are options to fix that.

I just got mine as a DD. Been DDing for almost 2 years now. Had a 5th gen Gen also I DD'd for almost 6 years. Both been sticks which was a must. Had no desire for a 1LE since no Track plans. Just gimme the HP and Tq for street and I'm happy.
