That would indicate whether it's either leaking, or being burned.

Too bad on a car abt 2 years old.
I have not checked for leaks yet. There isn't a drop of oil in my drive way. I'm going to do a compression and leak down test on monday hopefully we can figure it out.

My old man had a Buick (hi-dollar) one time, and serviced by them entirely.

And it darn near got non-functional because the dip-scheits never changed the oil, reset the calibro, and said they did on the maintenance record.

Just saying, it happened with an unscrupulous dealer, could still happen.

My opinion, engines running the way they should, with no issues, ought not to go through more than a quart thru oil changes if they are flogged. Babied, ought to be darn near undetectable oil loss. (my 2 millicents)

Yeah bro I like to start threads for attention you got me! I got a oil low message on my car. I had 2.5 qts in my garage so I put that in. The next day I took my car in to my mechanic so he could put my new O2 sensors in and asked him to read my oil levels for me. He ended up needing to dump another 5.5 qts for the oil to read full on the dipstick.

Who changed the oil? do they know how much oil it takes? if you blew 8 qts in 3k miles you would be seeing huge puddles under your car or mosquito fogging behind you when ever you drive it. I think who ever changed your oil messed up.

you still haven't told us if there's visible smoke in the exhaust.

There is no visible smoke . And I changed the oil today and will monitor every 250-500 miles to see if it drops

Well, no blue smoke - no leaks to be found - I'm going with "immaculate consumption "!

Good luck OP - you have us all stumped.

8 qts is a lot oil. If its really burn that much, ita good time to check your engine internal parts.

Well if it didn’t leak out or burn up, there are only so many other places it can go. I’m pretty sure this is next to impossible in our cars due to pressure differential, but did you check the coolant for oil?

Also make sure you have the right dipstick in the car.

So your car ran with 2 qts of oil in it? Yeah, about that.....
