We have started delving into adding a tune, and from what I've learned so far, at least with MY tuner, conventional tuning for what I believe would typically be considered the "norm" for most LTG tunes. We have had to tweak a few things, mainly a lot of work on the wastegate duty cycle table to get the car happy with a tune and the JF valve. That said, what I've said may not apply to ALL tunes, and/or tuners, there are many different ways to skin a cat, and I'm finding that some tuners command a higher desired boost shooting to actually get a lower number, and fudge from there, while some tuners set up things in such a way that desired boost is desired boost, no numbers are fudged, and desired is achieved... Basically, anyone that already has a tune, should at least log some runs and see if there are any issues, you may, or may not need a retune based on the new valve to keep everything happy. While I did not get a check engine light with the stock tune with the 2nd latest prototype, I did however get a check engine light yesterday with the tune and the most recent prototype. I'm not sure if it is an issue related to the most recent prototype, or if it had something to do with a tune issue, so for the mean time, I have gone back to the stock tune, because ultimately we need to keep the check engine light off on a stock tune, and if you have a tune, you will possibly have to tune around the valve to keep it all happy, or simply disable the check engine light if it happens to throw one with your tune but there are no ill effects in the logs. So I will continue to run the stock tune for the time being on this latest valve, hoping that there are no CEL issues. Probably go back to working on my tune some time next month. The most basic way I can figure to explain the issue with the valve and a tune, and why different strategies need to be taken when tuning is this. With a tune, a variety of things are typically tweaked to get boost to come on as quickly as possible, and boost is typically raised. In my case, it was coming on too fast, and too much. Too much being because my tune commands more than desired under the assumption that its not going to hit commanded (based on a stock leaky valve perhaps)... In low rpm high load situations, the boost was way too high (actually hitting, or even exceeding commanded, rather than desired from a fudged number), and was causing some pretty bad knock. After some massaging the wastegate dc table, that was pretty much fixed, and we surprisingly saw a completely linear boost line in the following log, which is something I've never seen from one of these cars on any log ive ever looked at. So long story short, get the valve before you tune, OR at the very least log some drives on your current tune after you get the valve, as your tune may need to be changed. We have been making the parts manually, which is painstakingly slow, and while not difficult some of the tolerances on this part are very tight, so its easy to scrap a part if too much material is removed. Unfortunately, I did get several check engine lights (3) this last weekend while on a road trip on the stock tune. We are working on implementing a change that may or may not cure that. Here is an update from Jason:
"We're going to start selling them, but there will be two different versions. The "Tune version", which is what we will start slowly selling, is what you have. I'm calling it that because it still throws a check engine light on a stock tune, where as a person with tuning ability can tune around that to keep it off, or simply disable the check engine light. The "Tune version" "should" provide maximum performance as it is set up not to leak at all. The tune version works completely fine on a stock tune, but I get a check engine light once every 1 to 3 weeks, but its nothing to be concerned about, just clear the light and keep enjoying. So that said, we are still working on the "Stock tune version", which will have a small leak built in, to allow the ecm to stay happy. Hopefully, my plan is to make the leak to act like some kind of "low speed bypass", that will allow the valve to enough below say, 7-10psi to keep the check engine light off, and then above that psi, the orifice will close and seal to be leak free above that. If I can't pull that off, than the stock tune version valve, will just have a built in leak at all times to keep the check engine light off. It will take some experimenting to find out how big of a leak it will take to keep the check engine light off. It will hopefully be less than the stock valve, but obviously more than the tune version that doesn't leak." Here is a look at the pre-sale "tune version" valve I received from JacFab!!!!

Just installed mine. Very nice part. Very well made. Jason did a really good job on these. It's very straight forward and easy to install. I noticed it holds a stronger powerband throughout the entire RPM range especially above 4500. It doesn't die off like it used to. I have a Mishimoto CAI and the "new" blow off noise it makes is crazy. It has a higher pitch, quivering shudder blow off sound now. It sounds EXACTLY like an early 90's Supra. It doesn't bother me, it might turn some people off though. Just keep the stock air box on. I'm curious to see if other CAI's make different sounds. I was able to set off the CEL p2261 downshifting on the hwy from 5th to 4th gear trying to get into the upper RPM range. I have a feeling if you drove the car in a normal fashion it would probably never set off a CEL. It seems like the ECU would only detect it when being absolutely hammered on. The good news is, you can permanently turn off that parameter with HP Tuner or EFI Live as stated in a previous post and the CEL does not affect the cars performance at all when on. I have a simple obd2 bluetooth reader that I use on my cell phone with the Torque app to clear codes with. Only takes a few seconds and the CEL is gone. Overall, I'm very happy with it. I can't wait to see what else Jason has up his sleeve for this platform.
