Mercedes CLA 45 AMG

Hey everyone. Came across a Mercedes CLA 45 AMG and they sound insane. They are an in-line 4 and I was wondering how do they make them sound like that. Here is a sound clip: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nAZTy9eaMGQ&autoplay=1
If you have any ideas please let me know

If you've ever pulled the exhaust down from our cars you'll see why they sound so shitty from the factory. There's literally a crimped L that completely screws our exhaust note.

Actually none of those cars sound like each other. The EVO has a unique exhaust note, as does the SRT4, and a turbo civic is completely different. No offence to the Camaro, but I think most will agree even opened up and making power they sound horrible.. and I raced turbo 4 cars for over 15 years now and am a huge fan.

They sound raucous in a 4 cyl way and they crackle. I still wouldn't say it's a necessarily great sound. I'll take a V8 rumble any day.

Its a fantastic performance car, but luxury is another story for the price you pay. I was really looking into a cla 45 amg until I sat in the interior. Ats is much nicer. Performance was great on the amg though!

I absolutely loves the sound of my fiat abarth and that is the plan for my ATS instead of a catted d/p I got a zzp catless will run a center muffler and straight through the rest. Going to keep looking at mufflers that will fit and have a lower tone to them and have a shop weld up a stainless exh.. find some factory look tips 3 inch front to rear.

Totally agree - the CLA 45 AMG (and the Arbath mentioned above) are probably the best sounding turbo 4s on the market. And they sound nothing like anything else (Civic, really??)
Sadly, the LTG is just a poor sounding 4 no matter what you do. It doesn't have that polished, smooth burble and controlled crackle like those two. Motor Trend once called the LTG the worst sounding "lump" in the turbo2l class.

However, i'm not aware of anyone making an aftermarket exhaust manifold. I've always been curious how much the sound can be improved with some focused tubular exhaust tuning.

The Merc A45 2.0L is easily one of the best sounding 4 cylinders I've heard in any remotely recent memory. It really doesn't sound like a typical 4-cyl. If you look at their exhaust, the resonator volume in the tunnel under the car is surprisingly big. Simply running an larger diameter open pipe like most turbo aftermarket companies push will not yield the same sound.

I got to see one at my local track , talked to the owner. They have bad heat soak issues. Handles great and runs fast for one pass. He went 12.69 and 13.2 its FWD biased which I hate. I hope to line up against before the years over and take him down!

12.69? Damn. That's impressive. Was he tuned, or stock?
