Dipping in here, possibly out of turn, but whatever.
I know the shop that made the pulls, it's local to me, I grew up with the owners and the GM. My car has been on the same dyno and made 446whp. The tuner/dyno operator is a top notch guy, his resume includes places like Boost Logic and AEM. OP, it was probably just a fluke oiling or assembly issue. |

I know enough to know a stock car with less than 2000 miles doesn't just grenade on a dyno for no reason. I was agreeing with him saying it's a possibility as I've seen it happen on more than one occasion. But instead you locked up a motor to where it wouldn't turn over with only two spun bearings? And they are repairing with "parts"? Sorry, still not adding up.

No need to be hostile towards people who only wanted to help and put forth an estimated guess to what was the issue. Great they diagnosed it and it was a result of a defect vs money shift so it’s covered under warranty. But being hostile towards people will guarantee no help in the future.

Yeah and the big white elephant in the room is why did it spin the rod bearings in the first place? That really just doesnt happen out of the blue. So the real question is, what caused it and how is simply popping new bearings in there going to ensure that it doesnt happen again?

Ummmm YOU said you locked it up and wouldn't turn over. A spun rod bearing doesn't do that. Try again. |

I had a thrust bearing failure and it made the motor lock up. Maybe this is one of the bearings that failed and there is a misunderstanding somewhere...They will swap the whole crank out not just bearings. Mine then failed after that too, and then they finally replaced the entire motor....only a 2 month process all together.

Spun rod bearing often welds the bearing to crank and crank to block which most definitely locks the motor up tight as a drum and necessitates replacing the block and crank

Why, new bearings and a new crank and all is well. Just need to replace all of the crank and rod bearings along with the crank and the car will be just fine.

He said it was just two rod bearings not a main bearing. If the rods seized on the crank enough to stop the engine the piston destroyed the block. I'm thinking we aren't hearing the whole story.

I don't see where he mentioned main bearings, and the rod bearings can and will seize to the crank under extreme heat and pressure. There is no guarantee that this would destroy the block, either.
There may very well be "more to the story", but we aren't exactly owed anything so we don't really have any reason to go all Colombo on him do we? |
