Dropped my wife off at the cruise port and went to park the car in the garage across the street. I got it parked and then realized my wife had the keys on her. Got lucky I was not far away from her. I also don't like the keyless system.

This happened to a friend with his Nissan about 10 years ago. Teaching his son to drive, got home, son got out so he could go to the store. Son had fob. Dad comes back out to car from store...., lol.

You do know you can disable the "Honk" don't you?

Its in the setup pages, you have the option to have it honk at your or not.

I could be wrong but it seems I read some where that one reason for keyless start is so eventually the cars will be able to start and stop while you drive, (i.e.) while at a traffic control device or while coasting. Some cars are already equipped with this feature. Not sure if I would be on board with it, although I understand equipped cars it can be turned off.

Auto stop/start technology is in a few GM cars, I think the Cruze, LaCrosse, Regal, and maybe the new diesel 4 cylinder Silverado.

It's been in BMWs for years, and some Jeeps and Mercedes.

It's not a traffic control device, it's a fuel saving device. It shuts the engine off when you stop then restarts it when you accelerate.

It shuts the engine off when it meets certain criteria: when you've come to a complete stop for more than 2 seconds, there's no or minimal demand for the air conditioner compressor, and little electrical draw. Then it restarts when you take your foot off the brake. I see lots of worn out starters in the future for mechanics all over the world.

It's a horrible, annoying system. It was on my Chevy Cruze rental when I was in Phoenix in January, and I found how to turn it off and I did.

OK, so figure this one out. I drop my wife off at the door of a shopping center and then I drive out to the far reaches of the parking lot to park in order to avoid door dings. I shut off the car and then realize my wife took the key fob with her. I panic because I have no way to lock the car when I get out. So just for kicks, I step on the brake and hit the start button and the car starts. My wife was at least a quarter mile away inside the mall with the key fob in her pocket.

As would I.

But I might settle for having to physically plug the fob into a more durable version of a USB port if the need for inserting electronics into controlling anything and everything is really that necessary.

Mine won't. If the fob is in the house, usually 30 feet away straight line, it says no fob detected; won't start.

Right, it will say that if you haven't started the car yet.

This anomaly is after you've started the car, then the keyfob is removed from the proximity of the car WHILE the engine is running, then you drive away and then shut the car off.

Just an FYI - you can still lock the car the old fashioned way by hitting the door lock switch when you get out before you close the door. It will lock the doors and set the alarm.

You've missed the point. The honking is what saves me because I'm not aware that I've left the key in the car.

Running with the fob removed is a safety/liability feature. Like if you really needed to go somewhere (hospital?) and for some reason you dropped the fob or something. You can lock the car with it running and walk away and it'll stay locked, but if someone busts the window and crawls in, they can drive away.
