Sales is a completely different animal than service. Dealerships run on the money made in service, there isn't much meat left on the bone in new car sales. So to maximize profits it is common practice to stock the service department with low paid overworked people. It doesn't always work out the best for the customer, but you have to break a few eggs to get the dealership payroll paid. There are a lot of people working there that cost money. This isn't speaking from ignorance, I've been at one dealership or another for over 30 years.

I get that you have experience, but please understand it is entirely anecdotal and one-sided.
As is mine. ![]() But the reality is that I wasn't speaking of sales at all, I'm speaking of the service department. There are some *great* dealerships out there. AutoNation Subaru Scottsdale replaced a $860 throttle body on an 80K mile way-out-of-warranty Outback as customer goodwill just last year. AutoNation Chevrolet in Gilbert takes my car the second I pull up, they do only what I ask and do so perfectly, and they return it usually before I even get bored or decide to go home. ON the other hand, SanTan Ford wouldn't fix a manufacturer defect on my vehicle and caused damage when replacing a broken windshield. So let's just agree that there are both types, they actually DO exist on both ends of the spectrum, and everything isn't always the same as everything else. You simply can't throw blanket statements like that, no matter the anecdotal experience attached. |

I don't take my car in for non-warranty issues, but I'm not stupid enough to throw money away so when it is warranty I sure will.
And... I will say while YMMV it really hasn't been difficult for me to find good dealerships. Make good relationships, get recommendations... these things help you in all aspects of life! Even when I moved to AZ, my guys at BMW of Austin knew some guys at the BMW dealer here so they made some calls and introductions... relationships

The Northeast part of this country is full of shady horrible dealers while people I know in VA, FL, and TX seem to have fewer lame dealers, meanwhile people I know in NY and NJ seem to have more bad service than even PA. Probably has something to do with population density.

No doubt. Here's a funny thing I've seen happen numerous times. Joe Blow off the street has an issue out of warranty, never been a customer, maybe even from a competing dealer, and dealer will bend over backwards to "win a new customer", give the guy everything. Guy never comes back and you see his car back at your competitor getting brakes and tires with his 60k service. Meanwhile Steady Eddie customer is out of warranty by 100 miles and "Oh, well..." he gets nothing. He's already a customer WGAF. Blows my mind to this day.

They probably just went to the Time Warner/Comcast training academy for Customer Disservice.

From the owner's manual
6.2L (LT1) Engine Change the engine oil to 0W-40 or Capacities and Specifications 0 3445W-40 that meets the dexos2 specification. If this oil is not available, the following oils can be used as an alternative: Valvoline SYNPOWER MST 5W-40, Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40. See |

I picked up 10 quarts of Valvoline 5w40 Dexos2, should be fine for street or track.
It is Dexos2 certified.

I was told I didn’t qualify for the free oil change at 1k miles, that GM wouldn’t cover it until I reached 20% oil life.
I don’t even know why I bother, I’ll just change it myself like I do my other 4 cars.

Michael at AutoNation Chevy took care of me with the 900 mile oil change. Let my OCD ass come back and check the car getting lifted, take pics & all that.
Trust issues since I’m now battling the Cadillac dealership just down the street on my wife’s 2018 ATS and the damage they caused where the cars needs paint on both sides now which I wasn’t told about. I stopped by the day prior and chatted with them to make sure they were going to be OK with everything I was requesting, I really think it’s that approach before hand that’s needed to make sure the service people are a good fit for ya
