1,500 miles, 0W-40, and the dealership...

That combination apparently doesn't work well at the dealership. I'm having to argue about why I'm bringing my car in for an oil change with "just 1500 miles" and again why I want 0w-40. They're saying that it's just for Corvettes and that Camaros absolutely do not take it (but it says it in the 1LE manual), then they say the first two oil changes will only cover 5W-30, even though the price is the same between the two weights.

Just venting, no real reason for the post. I was hoping this dealership would change mind but it has only reinforced my feelings. I'll be doing everything myself from now on.

I showed my dealership the track prep guide and it was a done deal.

The price for Dexos 2 spec oil isn't the same. I think GM only gives the dealer $19.95 for oil change labor and probably a very low reimbursement cost for the oil.

The recommended oil for a Camaro is Dexos1 rated 5W30, GM gives us $28.95 for parts on a maintenance plan oil change. $28.95 for a filter and 10qts of syn blend oil, so imagine how much 10qts of 040 synthetic would be and you can see why they cant do it for free. This being said, there isn't any reason why they cant split the cost and have you pay the remainder of the balance on a 0w40 dexos 2 oil change. It has also not been my experience to deny someone from using their maintenance plan oil changes when ever they want. It just takes someone who wants to help you to make it happen and unfortunately not all service advisors are goning make that effort for an oil change they make exactly nothing on.

My dealer had absolutely no issues doing the Dexos-2 Oil changes for me and covering them with no charge. They are also super easy to work with, on time with appointments, ready when you get there and generally excel at providing great service. I would suggest finding one that is more willing to work with you, I don't typically want to fight people on this... they show straight away whether or not they're going to help and I act accordingly.

If you're in or near Gilbert, AZ then go to Autonation Chevrolet in Gilbert because they have been absolutely fantastic to work with. For that matter, the Subaru Superstore and Volvo of Gilbert are also fantastic to deal with. That Mercedes dealer, though... I wouldn't let their sales people PAY me to take a car off the lot.

I changed mine myself. I didn't even argue with myself.

I am letting my free oil changes go to waste.

Yep.

For the price of oil and filter I'm not letting a disgruntled dealership employee touch my car.

I went and got a Quickjack set up so I can change my oil, diff, trans fluids. Rotate tires, do the brakes. Pretty much everything that needs to be done in my garage at home.

The only one flogging my car will be me.

I worked 7 years at a GM dealership and this is true.

I'm definitely going to eat the cost of fluid changes going forward and do it myself.

**** dealerships, do you really trust them with your car? Go there for a free oil change, come out with a few scratches and problems for years to come!

Is everything always the same as everything else with you?

Are you that comfortable throwing blanket statements over everything?

There are good, even great dealerships out there. I mean a lot of people got huge deals on their cars from Becky D, let's not be quite so ignorant as to paint everyone with the same brush.
