Yeah, it is too bad that Bridgestone has decided to replace them with the RE-71r and not just add the RE-71r to their product line.

I have had both, and the RE-11's are the last of the extreme performance category where there are no real compromises (san tire wear).

I have had RE-11's on 3 different cars and most recently RE-71'r on my M3. The RE-71r's have less hydroplaning resistance, take longer to heat up, have more R compound compromises, are noisier (in a bad way, like sticky tape being peeled), and heat cycle out way before the tread is gone.

The RE-11's did EVERYTHING very well and were consistent their whole tire life, were sticky even when cold, and did awesome in the rain and standing water.

RE 11 are the heaviest tires out there. 4-5 lbs per tire.

That is because they have a very stiff sidewalls. It doesn't hurt the performance unless you are going for time on the track, in which case you are probably on a different tire anyways.

For an extreme performance category tire used on a street driven car, they are one of, if not the best performance tire that can do it all with the least amount of compromises.

To get the 3R's up to max-potential grip temp on the road you'd likely have to do some illegal things...The 4S on the other hand will be fairly easy to get there and likely 95%+ of owners wouldn't be able to reap the benefits that a tire like the 3R could offer on a track.

...Sure the 3R would be better if you were a track junkie, but there's better than the 3R for that purpose anyway as far as grip, cost, and durability, IMO....
I agree with this post!

I did notice the stock tires handle the long windy and curvy road to my house better than the PS4's but nothing significant. Other than that I like the new tires.

I know all about the tire. Too much unsprung weight for me.

Even if you are a hardcore track enthusiast (like me) you'd probably be better off running a ZL1 1LE replica wheel with a Pilot PS4 on it on the street.

Also, speaking of Pilot PS4, what a bad ass tire it is on track as well. Depending on the circuit, the tire is only going to be about .25-.65 seconds slower at 10/10ths than the superCar and last a lot longer.
Is there a 19" replica with the correct offsets?

Not in the 19x12. They have a 19x11 rear fitment and 19x10.5 front fitment with proper offsets. Otherwise it's a good replica.

I kept the original tires with 900 miles on them and will put them on rims for when I do track the car. Meantime, how much negative affect will these tires have on my vehicle in regards to dssv etc?
So what's the verdict?? I'm torn. I have a set of BC Forged wheels on order and initially thought I would continue with the 3R's.. Now I'm considering the PS4 for regular street driving and especialy if theres an advantage at the drag strip? I don't drive it much, but the tires seem to never get warm unless its hot out so taking off or accelerating seems to only be a peddle fest. Currently at about 680 rwhp/rwtq. Other than the obvious track advantage..I'm curious

Thoughts from any one and also which would perform better at the drag strip? I doubt the 3R's would ever get warm enough to grip, but would like opinions. TIA

If your are not going to track the car (road course), ditch the 3r’s for now

I've got a set of replica wheels, one inch narrower, with a set of Nitto G2 for daily duty.

I need a decent amount of waterways due to living in FL.

No complaints.

With that said, I completely disagree about the PS4s being only a half second slower on the track. I doubt they would come within 1.5 and they would overheat within a few laps.
+1 agree on all fronts here. On street/mtn roads PS4(or other true radial/Non-R Compound) but on a track properly driven at limit they would not be less than a 1-1.5 secs of the 3R(or other R compound)and I'm not talking 1 hot lap I'm talking the course of a whole 20-30min session. For a driver that is pushing this car at 6-7 tenths of its capability then he may be right in that the difference would be much less than 1.5sec and that I will agree with.

At the end of the day a person just needs to be honest with themselves on what their skill level is and pick a tire that matches. No shame in that. The radials that are out there today are amazing in what they can do. But they are not a true R-Compound. Not sure I'dcall the 3R one either...hahaha. Hell if I could have 3 sets of wheels I'd run non R-compounds for non-track driving for sure.

Complete agree the Goodyears are way too dangerous for the street when wet. Too risky in FL when its clear one moment and a downpour the next.
Anyone know of any issues using all equal ZL1 20's on a 1LE? Besides the speedo being off some?

I am very unimpressed with the 3R on the street and I have a set of slicks for track use, so I just ordered a set of R888R for street.
Does anyone want to buy a set of stock 3R with 800 street miles on them ?
