ZL1 1LE tire purchase?

Can someone explain what I have done wrong with purchasing new Pilot Sport 4 S tires for my car? They are the same size as stock. I have no problem replacing the stock F1's every 3K miles but it made more sense to have something a little more streetable as I travel back and forth to work. I kept the original tires with 900 miles on them and will put them on rims for when I do track the car. Meantime, how much negative affect will these tires have on my vehicle in regards to dssv etc?

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. If they're the same size, then it's not going to effect the car one bit (Besides track handling). You will have better drivability on the street and in the wet as well as better traction when they're "cold" and not warmed up. To get the 3R's up to max-potential grip temp on the road you'd likely have to do some illegal things...The 4S on the other hand will be fairly easy to get there and likely 95%+ of owners wouldn't be able to reap the benefits that a tire like the 3R could offer on a track.

Don't worry about anybody saying otherwise. Sure the 3R would be better if you were a track junkie, but there's better than the 3R for that purpose anyway as far as grip, cost, and durability, IMO. But on the other hand, there is nothing better for high performance street than a 4S.

That's what I thought. I researched it all out before deciding which tires brand to get. Thanks!

It’s like wearing a pair of crocs to go running. It’s an all season tire. Not appropriate for someone speaking a high performance driving experience.

Please list what cars have you owned with MPSS or MP4S. I can name a few since 2012 that contradicts your statement. Make sure you read the OP.

The SuperCar-R tire is for all intents and purposes, a racing slick with tread once hot. I wouldn't want to daily drive on a set of them if I could help it and I do not.

Even if you are a hardcore track enthusiast (like me) you'd probably be better off running a ZL1 1LE replica wheel with a Pilot PS4 on it on the street.

Also, speaking of Pilot PS4, what a bad ass tire it is on track as well. Depending on the circuit, the tire is only going to be about .25-.65 seconds slower at 10/10ths than the superCar and last a lot longer.

What I'm curious about is how much ultimate cornering grip you give up with them. GM says with the R3's you get 1.10g and that is a conservative number. Some can see closer to 1.2g.

How much lateral g's do you lose with the PS4?

If you like taking on-off ramps, this becomes important.

The stock Goodyear’s are flat out dangerous on the street. Swapping to a more street friendly tire is probably one of the best things you can do. It actually “increases” the performance of the car for those that spend a lot of time on the street due to the heat required to get the G3R’s up to temp.

With that said, I completely disagree about the PS4s being only a half second slower on the track. I doubt they would come within 1.5 and they would overheat within a few laps.

The RE-11's are an awesome extreme performance street tire and will have better grip than the PS4. They come in stock 1LE sizes, too bad they are being discontinued.

I ordered these in the ZL1 1LE sizes and they are amazing on the street. I actually hook at the top of 1st and all through second now. Grip on the street has gone up dramatically too. As a plus the ride isn't as rough anymore, my kidneys quit peeing blood. Tood bad I won't be able to find another set, I was hard enough finding the rears online.
