Well... ya know... its Ford. They don't let you play with your "performance" car.

Exactly. I optioned out a GT and it was in the low $50K range. And that was just for a PP1 with the A10 and no other crazy options like a racing strip package etc, lol!! The PP2 will shave money from not having the A10 option but it will still be in the mid $50K range. At that point I'd rather buy a used 6th gen ZL1, used Stingray, used Z06 1LZ, new M6 ZL1 (for a few thousand more), etc. All those cars will lay waste to a new GT, will hold better value, all while coming in at the same price.

Indeed. Sometimes they are right on the doorstep of current new Corvette pricing. I knew a few guys who bought the 6th Gen 2SS right when it was available and they paid right on the heels of what a C7 1LT costed. The GT PP2 might be even more than C7 1LT MSRP.

it is crazy. I know the cars are a lot better and perform a lot better but it's still crazy. Hell my 07 GT I think the MSRP on that car was 29 and change. And that car at the time was damn near fully loaded. Only thing it didn't have was 18" wheels and the Shaker 1000 audio. I would have to look for the window sticker, but I am pretty sure it was around 29.5 maybe 30

Looking at Mustangs even the current GT350 non-R is pricey. I saw quite a few of them with MSRP over what a ZL1 is. And that is the non-R. It is a shame that with Ford you have to pay much more for less performance.

A GT350 Non R has only 8 total options You can get either the Electronics Package which is 3k OR Convenience Pack which is 3k You can not get both packages together. The other options are 2 premium paints, 3 different stripes and a car cover. The most expensive MSRP you make a non R is 62,485. ZL1 MSRP is 63,795 What is true is that's a lot of coin to spend when something that does perform is right there for a few bucks more

The price of a fully optioned GT350 does seem to be high based on the performance offered as compared to the ZL1, but I would take into consideration where the value of these cars will be in 3-4 years. I suspect that the GT350 will hold its value better and be much more in demand. Why do I assume above. Take KBB example of 2013 models: ZL1 and GT500 both standard optioned, and 10,000 miles. The present GT500 price range is 40,509 - 44,544, vs the ZL1 29.992 - 32,795. Original MSRP for these vehicles were very similar. The reviews of the 13 GT500 were not kind yet it continues to hold its value, the GT350s reviews are very good, the same will likely play out with the ZL1 and GT350 models.

Anyway, taking your first statement about the GT350 being priced high for what you get into consideration. That extra cost would take away from any possible resale value advantage. And that's not taking into account the enjoyment value associated with owning and driving the ZL1. |
