I have to give you credit for remaining calm about this. I would have burnt my camaro to the ground and had a weenie roast in front of the dealership by now.

You say another one as if they are all falling apart, are there documented cases of rod bearing failures?

There are a few on this forum alone.
Looks like the problem was improper routing of one of the hoses and a pulley rubbed a hole through it. |

Ah...you've had some bad luck. Thanks for at least documenting all this for the forum.

No it was a coolant line. Car has not been the same since I got it back. I could hear some low RPM chatter through the sound tube and there is a weird misfire at idle. Good thing im taking legal action.

Just for fun I will add more info. I just got the car back from my 5th dealer visit. Going on six months now. Over the course of the 5 visits to my local chevy dealer they had to: change coolant clamp (wasn't holding), change hose that had silicone where it was torn, change hose because pulley rubbed through, change expansion tank due to crack and the hose because it was swelling, change water pump because of crack, tighten trans coolant line and put 2.5 qts of fluid back in (trans sounded horrible), change camshaft position sensor and change ECU because of voltage issues probably from improperly routed and stretched wiring connectors all over the place, which also caused my tach to jump around.
Everything seems good now. Just wanted to leave a big **** you to Chevrolet of Jersey City. Please avoid that place. Your better off driving the car into a swamp. Now it's time to start modding. |

I guess that 30 year engine builder mechanics experience didn't account for much.

My car's LT1 spun a bearing at 4k miles, left me stranded in another state, I have a couple threads already about it and the reimbursement for the rental etc. The first motor had a couple issues:
- Left me stranded while trying to get my sister from the airport and had to get it towed at 2am to the nearest dealer. Picked it up the next day and was told the crank sensor had become loose. The outcome of this was the car never started quickly again and took quite a few turn-overs to fire up. - Fuel economy was not great, could not get more then 20.5 MPG even cruising at 60 MPH on the freeway, around town was about 14 MPG but figured I drive it hard so it's a given. I strictly followed the break-in procedure on the first motor, not on the second. The second I simply don't red-line it or push it hard at low RPMs causing extra stress. Past 5500 RPM there isn't any more go anyways. But I drive it hard at least once a day and this motor is night and day difference. - Fuel economy of 17 MPG in town and 26 MPG on the freeway, even got close to 30 MPG cruising in 6th on the freeway. - She starts up with just a few cranks everytime now, and the motor actually wants to rev more instead of me having to really give it gas! I have a catch-can on since I drove this off the lot and the dealer/GM engineers said it was not related or an issue being installed. They also said they were going to rebuild but after taking off the bottom end and the heads they found damage to the cylinder wall and put a new crate motor in. I'm a happy camper end of the day and wouldn't sell. The first one was a dud... oh well! And I was told by two service managers now that the first 20k miles are the proving ground for these engines, if they get past they they usually last forever. Good luck OP and hopefully this all comes out for the best! |

I hope so too. I saw all of the parts that were damaged which was just the crank and rods. They replaced everything that has oil circulating through it. I'm curious too see if there is any scarring on the cylinder walls. Plan on doing a cam so I shall soon see.

Which German car can you get that is equivalent to power and performance of a SS Camaro? Please list a few cars to back up your argument. In the SS Camaro price point you would be lucky to get anything above an entry level German car with a 4 cylinder. Your story sounds like a case of very bad luck. You can easily get a lemon lawyer and get your money back for the car plus severance if your story is as valid as you say.
