Add another total LT1 failure to the list.
My car has 8800 miles on it. Mostly lives on the highway. Haven't had a chance to track it yet. But I do get on it every time I drive. Nothing crazy though.
So yesterday on the highway I had some idiot tailgating me for no reason. I don't hog the left lane. I get tired of it and mash the throttle. I was doing about 50 so I believe it downahifted to fourth and off it went. Approaching 6K RPM I heard some light rattling sound out the exhaust. Nothing from the engine bay. So I quickly shift to 8th and let off the gas. As the RPMs drop, I can still hear the rattling. No smoke or smell. I look at my dash and I see the oil pressure needle drop to 0. Engine went to idle. I immediately change lanes to get on the shoulder and within 3 seconds the engine shut down. I get out and look around and don't see or smell anything. I tried to restart and no motion from the engine. Not sure if the starter was even engaging because I didn't hear any clicking. Also there wasn't even a CEL. Haven't heard from the dealer yet. Really curious to see what the culprit was. I'm just grateful I have been holding off nodding. Definitely won't be doing any of that now. |

Damn that sucks. Is your car a '16? Did you take it in for the oil pickup bolt recall? I remember a similar issue someone posted about that

Another LT1 failure? Is this not common?

Still waiting to hear the root cause. Talked to the guy who's working on my car. Has good background in machining and engine work. Made me feel better about it.
We chatted a bit about Gen IIII, IV and V motors and he isn't a big fan of the new stuff either. He's thinking a spun bearing. The motor barely turns over so there is something clamping down on the rotating assembly. These motors are great tech but GM is going to lose a lot of enthusiasts due to the increased complexity and cost of nodding these cars. Staring to hit German car price points. These Gen Vs are either bulletproof or a complete failure. There is nothing in the middle. |

It has to be a flaw in the build process or a flaw in the metals/materials used otherwise we would be having the same issues. So either its QC or a flaw it the metals used causing wear.

Sorry to hear that man... sounds like you will be taken care of though since you are still well under warranty and you have not touched your car. Hope you will be back on the road soon!

That would be me lol. Ive been FOB and e85 for over 20k miles without a hitch. I track the car, race the car and try to have fun as much as possible. I am at 26k miles now so hopefully anything that would have been messed up would have shown its ugly head by now.

Usually stuff like this happens early on. Later on will be normal wear items.
