Not if it is a minimal refresh. That doesn’t constitute a new model. It is just barely more than a model year program. headlamps and taillights can change in an annual program. You just show up to the dealer one day and maybe notice the difference. It is also pointed out in all the printed and online material. I think this will be a minimal refresh. Headlamps and taillights, some fascia changes to accommodate the new lights, plus adding the 10AT beyond the ZL1 and maybe adding the 7MT. Maybe some new exterior colors. Maybe adding Adaptive Cruise and Crash Avoidance / Automatic Braking as an option. Nothing more.

Having been an insider and having a bunch of insiders in my network, I can tell you WITH CERTAINTY that any “insider” would never provide info to this or any other forum just for the sake of saying “I knew it before anyone else”. That is the fast lane to firing and legal action.

Even though I know people on pretty much every GM product team, I would NEVER ask them for inside info. And they would most likely cut all ties with me if I did. I know better than to put them in that position.

Over the years I have interacted with and provided info to C5, C6, and C7 programs. In every one of those programs I know by name someone who got fired and in one case sued for leaking information. Similar with GMT900 and K2 truck programs. People got fired for allowing access to camo vehicles.

It’s not that there are not insiders....it’s just that those who are insiders are smart enough to not leak info.

There is always a press embargo in place. Violators get banned from future news or invites, unless you're Jalopnik. Plus it's just showing a little respect. If you had a secret surprise you wouldn't want someone blurting it out.

Agree, i would at least wait to see what's coming for 2019. If nothing major, probably lots of 2018s still out there with big discounts.

Cheers!
I don't trade up each year and in fact don't even have a Camaro right now but I do like to keep the top model in my garage.

Working the bugs out is something I have hope for the refresh. Two ways to look at that one since the 6Gen has been out a while.

...and for me personally, a 1LE upgrade is not "small" although not part of the refresh. Any other goodies that come with the refresh is a bonus so we agree it's worth the wait to find out before making a decision. I ordered and waited months for all my Camaros so I guess I'm just patient and get exactly what I'm after. I really want a new color too.

I think we are the only ones creating drama. GM hasn't indicated anything. The rest of the world could care less.

Yeah, I think it has to be sooner. Something around the NY show seems to fit the timeline.

If it is a substantial mid-cycle...at least on par with 2014, probably more, then something off-site around NYIAS makes sense. If it’s just fascias, Adaptive Cruise, expanding A10 beyond ZL1 and new colors, Belle Isle or “not at all” make sense. This is not a Bullitt intro or a GT500 intro or a Hot Wheels intro. This is somewhere along the lines of a Redline intro.

We all knew something was coming, but the reveal was more or less a surprise...and a bit strange at that. The first 2014 Camaro refresh reveal was on a morning news/talk show.

Even the 6th gen leaked like that ahead of the official unveiling

*shrug* Any refresh, or for that matter the introduction of a new year model is a Marketing opportunity; another chance to introduce the car to people. You hit key features that may not have changed at all, like "0-6 under 4 seconds" and mention "improved blah blah", etc. GM seems content with Camaro numbers, but I think they should advertise the car more, and a year year intro splash is advertising.

I'm still waiting for that camaro commercial to air. Maybe it won't since the refresh is right around the corner. Guess we will just have to live with those awful real people commercials. Definitely didt make me want to go out and buy a Camaro... lol I did anyway because I'm a car guy but there are probably some untapped buyers out there who could be swayed by a cool commercial.

Maybe they'll wait until they launch a Z28 (IF) then just showcase the refresh along side it. "Your new for 2019 Camaro lineup!"

I doubt it though. My guess is that if they ever do a 6th gen z28, it will be the final year of production for the 6th gen as a halo exit.

Here is the thing, there was a prototype car which had ZL1 body work along with ceramic brakes and narrower tires then the ZL1 Camaro.

If there is a Z/28 in the works then that mule was the Z/28 if you ask me at least.

I agree. I wish that the photographer had taken some interior picks of the mule. It'd be nice to know what seats it had, what transmission was in it, and what was different about it compared to the ZL1. I'm sure we'll see mules running around once it gets hot out. It's just a matter of time till one is caught at the nurburgring.

Yes, that one was on the schedule and the morning show was sort of the leak.

They were at the ring a couple weeks ago...

If they do another Z/28 I would really like to see that tremec DCT offered in it as an option.

http://www.tremec.com/index.php

It can handle 664ft-lbs of torque up to 9,000rpms and 7 speeds, I think it would do amazingly well in a Z/28 Camaro.

I think they can go to the parts bin and build a Z/28 really easily with the only extra being this transmission.
