How do you get Google Maps to work with Apple Car Play? I have only been able to get Apple Maps to work. I have the built in navigation, but I don't like it.

The phone I had connected via USB is an old (Edit: iPhone 5) I use to store music and it is jailbroken. Just tried it with my current iPhone 6 (which usually is connected via bluetooth) and only the Apple Maps app will appear. I also have built in nav but, since I rarely drive on long trips, I seldom use any navigation other than to tell me how long it is going to take to get where I'm going. The factory nav is perfect for that.

I repair Apple devices and I've had three phones from them, they're great devices and iOS is a great operating system, in my opinion. If you don't like Apple, that's fine, no one is making you use of their devices. I'm not a fan of their closed ecosystem and how they won't support 3rd party repair services, but I still like their devices and how they are assembled. I also repair Android devices, Apple devices are much easier to service. Anyways, I do have the navigation system and it works great. You cannot rely on cellular nav in this part of the country, so that's something I did not want to go without. It sucks that I can't just update the maps myself (as far as I know anyways), but I like the fact it's integrated into the 8" display instead of using a separate GPS unit like my Garmin. Google Maps is far superior to most navigation software, but the built in nav in the Camaro works just as well and integrates with the HUD which is AWESOME!

So is stock Nav something that can be enabled later via a simple software update? Thanks!

Just to close out this thought, the dealer cant use the VIN from another vehicle to flash in functionality. That loop hole was closed while back, all of the modules in the Camaro are VIN tied to the VIN of the vehicle. So you cant swap in a VIN of another vehicle to flash the firmware that your car didnt have from the factory. |

Having OEM GM Nav on all my vehicles except my 17 SS I really love the Apple Car Play and glad I did not get Nav in the SS. The $199 map update (out of date by the time GM updates it) vs. the free Google Maps update is night and day difference.
