I'm a fan of all makes and models but fall in the Ford camp simply from my buying choices. I for one hope Camaro isn't done away with again. When the Camaro was out of production there weren't huge leaps in performance like there is now with the Mustang. The Camaro is indeed a much closer competitor to the Mustang than the Challenger and if the Camaro goes again we could see another somewhat stagnate Mustang. And it's great the ZL1 is such a capable car and taking down cars that are much more expensive than it. The rivalry between Camaro and Mustang has really pushed them to new levels and makes the time we are living really exciting. With Dodge joining the fight finally (with the Hellcat and Demon) I'm sure it's is a bit of an eye opener for both Chevy and Ford. In fact, we are expected to see an insane GT500 for the 2019 MY. There is no better time to be a car guy than now. |

It seems the only formula for substantial Camaro sales is for it to disappear for a while....The first gen had all the mojo, legacy, heritage, etc., that warranted re-introducing the 5thGen....After the 1STGen was gone, so was the demand for Camaros. Sure, it hung around for a lot of years, but after it was discontinued, was their an outcry because everyone missed the 2-4 Gens?...I doubt it. That's why the 5thGen was designed to resemble the 1stGen, not the others...
Same thing here with Gen5 and Gen6..We'll probably see a Gen7 and the head scratching will continue even more over why it's not a top seller....If low-end sales of I4s and V-6 don't continue to sell well enough to carry the Camaro brand, get rid of it....or continue production of high end V-8 Performance Camaros only as long as the hi hp engines are viable like the Corvette...Look at Corvette sales numbers....pretty low...never a 4 or 6cyl Corvette will ever be built...Camaro could do the same.... If it gets discontinued altogether, just wait a while...when it's re-introduced again it will be in demand and sell in huge numbers....Just a thought... |

A lot of good points made,
I think the reality is, it makes more sense for a family to buy an SUV and a truck which make it easier to haul kids and stuff, which makes Camaro’s and mustangs more of a luxury car. But here’s a different perspective, My son and I were at Barrett Jackson in Las Vegas this past October, Outside of the entrance we’re three cars, a 2018 Challanger, a 2018 Mustang and a 2018 Camaro ZL1. Over the next 2 days, every time we walked in and out of the show, there was a crowd around the ZL1, nobody around the other two. It’s like they weren’t there. Interesting observation |

Part of that is poor planning though. Not everyone needs to cross the country to attend some expensive private school. I commuted to a local school and graduated without debt, then got my Camaro right after graduation. Also, your dream major doesn't always put food on the table, which I feel a lot of people in my generation need to learn.

Very well said, 4 year colleges are fine, if you have an attainable goal after graduation, if not, it’s a huge waste of money and time. Technical and trade schools are greatly under estimated. Starting out life in debt, is a bad idea. JMHO |

Nothing wrong with that at all. Today's high schools push college pretty hard on students, but fail to highlight non-degree paths.

The 5th gen Camaro sold an average of aroud 6700 units per month from release through 2015. In January between 2010-2015, GM moved around 5000 units each year. These sales numbers are almost -40%.
GM sold roughly 500,000 5th gen Camaro's and there are around 221 million driver's in the United States. It's hard to imagine poor sales are the result of market saturation when the 5th gen sold strong through it's entire run and there are so many potential customers out there. The car is too expensive to appeal to the majority of people who would have bought one at a price close to the 5th gen. Fix the price, fix the problem. |
