I have come to appreciate the nannies on the street...especially since the cooler weather arrived. Simply brilliant, but do want to get to know the car / throttle's actual ability in safer conditions.
I'm a little confused about the said process / comments. Are you guys saying the hold down & the double tap are indeed the same in regards to the said nannies?? Do you have to be in Sport when you switch to DT and/or Hold or does the car simply understand once you enter the setting, it automatically & consistently will have less nannies on Sport vs Track if you want to test between the two. |

I wouldn't temp it during cool weather seeing how different the car now behaves vs 100 degrees...again, the nannies are fantastic on the street at the moment. I'll likely be one to circle back & start another thread on tires when the time comes to replace. I only have 3500 miles but will be interested to see what others like & dislike with OEM alternatives with some time behind them. I'm leaning towards staying OEM as of now because of how they like the heat & suits deep south tx just fine for the majority of the months & mind my manners in our short cool sprint where they are not real happy. |

On my car, if you hold down the traction control button until both lights come on, it DOES NOT turn off all nannies (on my car anyway, and other's I've talked to also).
At the Texas Mile I was wanting to do a conventional type burnout prior to running the mile. I wasn't interested in going through the line lock procedure and simply wanted to apply the brakes and do a standard burnout. To accomplish that, I held down the traction control button for 7 seconds until I got both lights. I was also in Race mode. As soon as the tires began to spin, the traction control would limit the spin by cutting throttle (or timing or whatever method used to limit acceleration). Tried quite a few times and COULD NOT burnout with both lights on. Eventually, I tried the burnout with only the 1st light on and to my surprise the burnout went great.

It's pretty confusing! I know members on the Corvette forum have found their Corvettes work the same way mine is working, can only spin the rear tires (without traction control coming on) when the first light is on... again, regardless of mode. There was (at least) one other ZL1 at the Texas Mile who's car worked just like mine was doing....

You might try this in yours and see if it works differently. There seems to be a lot of confusion on whether the dual lights really turn off traction control. I know there is a LOT of assumption that it does... again, it is very confusing...

Those of us who learned to drive on the ice and snow probably had a much easier time getting comfortable dealing with the rear end stepping out on us. I literally had the rear tires spinning 50% of the time on the ice when I was kid. I would bet that nearly all of the “cars and coffee” burnouts leaving the parking lot that we see on You Tube that went bad actually went bad when the driver panicked and got out of the throttle. STAY IN IT! |
