2017 TCM Removal
The Tuning School says you can remove the TCM on a 2017 by simply removing the splash plate and reaching up and unhook the TCM:
I tried that this morning and either these dudes have pencil thin forearms or they removed a whole lot more than just the splash plate. I couldn't even see the TCM let alone reach up and unhook and connector. Brake ducts were in the way and a whole lot of other stuff. Looks like I'll be removing the front fascia.

Just pulled the TCM this morning to send out to HP Tuners for unlock. Took my son and I about 20 minutes to take the front fascia off and another 5 or 10 minutes to remove brake duct and TCM.

I am sure the tuners on here can explain in a lot of detail, but basically on the 17's you have to remove the TCM and send to HP Tuners so they can "unlock" it. Once it's unlocked you can tune the tranny to modify torque management, slip tables, shift points, etc. For example, I believe one of the tuners was able to tune out the shudder on the A8 by modifying the slips tables. I believe I also read on here you can gain .2-.3 in the quarter with correct torque management.

"T87A transmission control module (TCM) DO NOT require an UNLOCK." ???
Anyone have experience with TRIFECTA calibrations ?
In this link https://www.trifectaperformance.com/...62l-advantage/ They claim to have a ECM and TCM calibration for the SS A8 LT1 that will "Actuate AFM (Active Fuel Management) via the Drive Mode Selector. Tour Mode = AFM (V4 Mode) Enabled Sport Mode = AFM (V4 Mode) Disabled" And that the TCM dont need to be sent in and unlocked to do this TCM calibration. So do anyone know anything about this company? Would be interesting to know if someone have tried calibrations from them and if they are reliable? |

Haha thread necromancy. You can get to the TCM with a lift and by taking the front passenger fender liner off. As for trifecta you will have to have the TCM taken out and unlocked it is locked by GM. Even using proprietary software like Trifecta does you will still need to unlock to write anything to the TCM. As for the other claims those aren't hard to believe.

I see this is an old thread but I thought I read somewhere you had to take the valve body out and send it in to have TCM unlocked on a 2017 Camaro SS with the A8.

No! You have to have the TCM programmed and that is it. But you need to copy the stock calibration files from the stock one and transfer them to the updated TCM. HPTuners also has the option to buy one already programmed to your cat by the VIN if you want to pay a little extra. But you will still have to transfer those files. Good luck.
