You and Coop are both DAILY posters and very actively involved. I'd really like to see that continue and move forward. We need to band together to face common enemies, not one another. So like I said, if I can do it, so can BOTH of you!

I keep seeing that mitsubishi turbo at sema pop up, I think it is scheduled for Jan 2018. It supposed to be good for 450hp and I think is supposed to be a direct bolt on.

Unfortunately that feature is pretty well broken all you can do is ignore it's not a true block...
Anyway seeing we're talking about forged internals why not just throw a 100 shot of NoS in there because how often will we really use that 450 to 500whp off the track?

So as I'm not mechanically inclined to a great degree what would be the best way to get more ring gap and keep in mind I'd get forged rods and pistons if i did NoS so i understand you need to file/shave the piston ring for a bigger gap but that's where my knowledge ends. I guess my real question would be are there forged pistons with high enough quality rings to do this.

Yes, in reality you are talking a hair(s) difference. Too tight, bye bye motor, too loose you might might burn oil or have excessive blow by.
Anyways this question is better answered by a builder, since they will have more trial and error to fall back on. However for starters most manufacturers give you a minimum spec per application. This is typically in the .004 to .007 X bore, range. Stock bore is 86mm I believe. 86 mm is 3.3858 inch. Say you went with the larger of the minimum 3.3858 X .0070 = 0.0237 top ring gap. I don’t know what the stock top gap is, but I would guess it’s about 1/2 or less then the 0.0237 I know that doesn’t really answer your question. Ask 10 builders you might get 10 different answers. You should discuss it with them and the manufacturer. |
