The C7 was kind of more a result of the government.
When I was working in AVDC, they had toned the C7 down to a C6.2 as everyone figured the government wouldn't like a new Corvette. The head of AVDC told me he was in a meeting where the Government folks asked, "But don't you make a lot of money on Corvettes?" "ummmmmmmm yes", was the answer. "So why aren't you doing a new one". "Got it. New one on the way"
Prior to the bankruptcy, the C7 was a mid engine car. Of course, the DCTs sucked then and GM had put a torque converter in the car that made it bigger and heavier so maybe the bankruptcy had at least the ability to kill off that bad idea.
