Stereo settings changing when top opens and closes

When my top is closed and I open it, the sound settings sound like they change once I get the message that the top movement has completed. The same for when I close the top.

When the top is open it sounds much better then when top is closed. It sounds like it shifts the centering around and increases the output. I have the Technology package with the Bose stereo upgrade. I want it to sound "good" like when the top is open all the time.

Does anyone else notice this? Is there a setting I can change to keep it sounding "good" all the time?

I just confirmed this change in sound recently. I thought it was my imagination.
I'm guessing the rear speakers are being disabled/enclosed with the top down?

I've never noticed that. I'll have to check when the Texas weather cools down a bit.

I noticed this too! Would love an answer as to why this happens.

I noticed this from the first week I bought my 2017 convertible back in 5/2017. I agree that the sound stage sounds much better when the top is open and I want to be able to set that and leave it like that permanently. No setting that I've found in the past 2+ years that I have had it. I assume they change it due to the wind noise and wonder if there is a wiring change we can make to fake out the radio to always think that the top is open.

* I am just joining here with 1 month experience in a ZL1 vert - so hopefully the audio experts can say definitively - but the change in "tone" you notice top up/top down is probably some sort of "noise cancellation" being added when the vert top is down.

* Note: many of the stereo upgrades talk about "clipping the ANC (automatic noise cancellation) mics in the doors". I think I might know where these are - they might be little things that look like tiny defogger vents at the back of the door. There's a pic below with the door off.

* This is probably not the answer you want, but I think the Bose sound is not good in any top up/top down configuration, so I encourage you to investigate a stereo upgrade.

* Here's some links for you, and I am in the middle of my upgrade with the car at the shop and about 50% done.

The processor is changing the way it sounds to account for the open top. I am not sure why they didn't just set it up to sound the same as when top down. The only work around I found was to change everything.

muted for a brief time due to a new
