Engine noise help please. 2018 SS manual

My car got loud for a second at high RPM yesterday (not sure if I bounced off the limiter) and now it seems there’s ticking that wasn’t there before. Any help would be appreciated. Am I imagining it?

Here’s a video with some RPM’s.

Definitely been there. Hopefully you're mechanically inclined. Otherwise it's about to get really expensive

Uh-oh... that isn't a good sound, unfortunately. Your engine needs professional help.

Loud at high rpm - what exactly does this mean? I hear typical LT1 noise in your video.

Sounds a little more than the typical LT1 though. Could be exhaust leak, lifter, spring, loud DI or how about this.....what exactly were you doing when "car got loud for a second at high RPM" ??? Did you miss a shift? You say "not sure if I bounced off the limiter" Hmmm....Did you bend a pushrod Mr.??? Time to take the valve covers off or bring it to a mechanic. Maybe put a mechanics stethoscope on it first if you wanna poke around with it.

Sounds like you have a lifter starting to go south.

You'd know if you hit the limiter, because all throttle is cut off by the ecu and the rpm's drop; it's very abrupt/startling (I don't like it). You can't 'bounce off' the limiter like on some other cars, unfortunately. However, I've never over-revved from a downshift, so I don't know what would happen in that situation.

I ran mine to 7400 rpm when i ran 3rd gear out and wasnt paying attention to how quickly it starts accelerating after 4000. It was when in first got my car. I bent a valve on cylinder 5. But also 2 pushrods.
Buying the head was cheaper than machine work plus valves. It was like $360 with valves from GM. Took about 4 hours to replace. The hardest part was getting the header out.

Pull the valve cover and inspect the rocker arms and pushrods. See if they have slack. Its pretty easy to do. For the most part it's a 10mm socket to do it all.

Wow what's the rev limiter then?

Just called a shop and they said I’d be looking at around $2800 if it’s lifter.

7000. It was before i had even looked into the tune. I moved it to 6600. My guess is the momentum it built was faster than its response. The freeze frame data for the miss was 7400.

It must have been tuned then because the rev limiter on these cars stock is 6600rpm.
