Battery Charging System errors?

Battery Charging System error message and red battery icon.

Antigravity 60A battery. Four years old.

I've charged it full with both trickle and regular antigravity chargers.

The clamp connections on the battery posts are solid.

How do I determine whether the problem is the battery, the alternator, or the belt?

What is the batteries static voltage and what is its voltage when charging?

If you had a way to check SOC and delta that would help a bunch but since we don't have hybrid vehicles it makes it a little more difficult to see and access that stuff so this will have to be done manually.

...or the wiring, the fuse(s), or the battery current sensor (which is managed by the BCM), or the charging controller module (which IIRC is the ECU).

My suggestion would be to interrogate the module that threw the error (probably ECU) using a scan tool, and work from there. You should have a code in the ECU even if the CEL is not lit.

Not sure if this is the exact diagram for your car, but you can probably find the proper one at acdelcotds.com with a $22 sub for 3 days. There's a heap of very rigorous troubleshooting and diagnosis step by step instructions for the "smart" charging system documented in the service data.

and congrats on 1000 posts, ZLRob!
