Original Battery

I purchased my 2017 ZL1 M6 new in March 2017. My car was produced in November 2016. I bought it off the showroom floor and the battery was dead when I looked at the car initially. I noticed the battery was very small in size, almost square. I thought, this battery will not last long.

Today in March 2026, I still have my original battery. This was installed in my car in November 2016 which makes it nine years and four months old.

Trunk mounted batteries last much longer, due to the absence of heat that comes from the engine bay.

Are there others out there with an original battery at this age? ...and FYI, I have never tendered the battery.

+1, except I did it in 2024. Old battery measured 445 CCA vs the nominal 760 CCA, still started the car every time, but I felt its pain.

At 6 years old, I decided to replace my OEM battery as it spent the first 4.5 years mostly sitting in the garage NOT on a battery tender... The last 1.5 was on a battery tender and it did get a bit better, but after 6 years, figured it was cheap insurance to order a new $170 battery and just replace it... It's a $50,000 car, if I can't afford to replace the $170 battery, I certainly can NOT afford the car...

It got a new battery...

I don't think you're on point with your response. Affordability was not the point of the thread. I, too, can afford a new battery, in fact, based on your price quote, I can afford 70,589 batteries at $170 each. Do the math.

I'm simply impressed with the longevity of the battery and I have no fears of getting stranded. I drive a manual and can compression start my car if ever needed. With that said, my car cranks as good today as it did in 2017.

Well that's swell... My point was what I decided to do... Had nothing to do with you, it was a general observation... Glad yours is working well, I prefer preventative maintenance vs. potentially getting stranded...

2018 hanging in there, few no cranks after sitting month or more through winter. Probably due a water level check and that might extend life few more years.

I took my car over to the dealer earlier this month due to a suspected weak battery. They hooked it up and it failed! The car is only 2.5 years old! Dealer replaced it for free.

ZZP is a well known and highly regarded shop/vendor in the 3800 community (3.8L V-6, including supercharged; front wheel drive primarily; Impala, Monte carlo, GXP, et al.)

That said, I've never hear of this battery they are offering. Probably worth researching who the underlying manufacturer is.

If you want to go lithium and have absolutely zero concerns about the what you are getting, you need to get an Anti-Gravity battery frm Griffin Motorsports. I have one installed for a few months now. Car is a daily driver plus weekend bracket racer. I never even think about that I have it; it just works as intended with multiple restarts throughout the day.
