Pre cat bung? Downpipe? What?
So im planning on tuning my currently stock 2020 Camaro LT1 on E85. I wanted to install a bung pre-cat for a wideband but theres literally no room whatsoever. Does anyone know of any company that makes catless down pipes with the flanges? I do not want to buy headers, just want the flex fuel. Car is already loud enough as is... I currently have secondary cats deleted all the way straight piped into an AWE exhaust.
I guess my question is how do I go about installing a bung pre-cat. Doesn't seem possible no room with cats in place. I wonder if i cut the flanges off and make my own piping. Or buy the two cat pipes and have a shop custom fab something for me. So frustrating, cant find a single company that makes down pipes for this car, only the turbo camaro model. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks |

I'm surprised too that no one makes a better catted down pipe set up considering the relatively small{er} gains from headers for the initial/bolt on type upgrades...Many consider the catted down pipes to be the bottle neck...
I guess once you go down the hole on the hunt for HP, headers are an inevitable choice.. Anyhow I found the linked thread a few weeks ago and just bought the GM gaskets for this mod to get my AEM wideband up and running until I collect all the goodies for stage 2...lol... EDIT: I just went back through the thread linked and didn't see the part numbers for the down pipe gaskets.. GM 21992620 and GM 12624939 will get you done..

Yeah my car is loud enough and just want the E85 benefits. Dont wanna spend a fortune on a good set of headers. Apparently that's what they go for nowadays

Just put it post cat. On ARH 200/300 cell cats the mine was about .1 difference post catted vs non catted. Search hptuners or LS1tech and you will find numerous posts about it.

It will buffer the signal that way. A better option would be put the front o2 in the rear hole and the wideband in the front hole. At least for tuning. The rear o2 is most just catalyst monitoring.

There is definitely room for a bung on the passenger side cat. I followed that link above and have it setup like that on two SSs

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm currently debating on just adding a bung on the passenger side (there's just enough room for a wideband) or custom fabricating my own down pipes with better flow since the factory cat pipes are pretty restrictive. I'm now aware most companies no longer make down pipes because of the legality of them in regards to the EPA raids. So I guess it's make it yourself now type deal lol
