Trunk Soft Close

I've been researching on here but is there a way that's been found so the trunk lid doesn't slam so hard? Maybe my struts have gone bad after 9yrs but there feels like there is almost no resistance at all. Not so much an issue for me but when others close it, especially the kids, it slams hard.

I have an affordable solution: replace the trunk lid struts, part number is 84593815, you need two at ~$12 each.

Man I dunno. $12/ea? Hard pill to swallow. Could I just do one now and one later?

Yes that’s sarcasm.

LOL- told myself I wasn't gonna post anything this evening, but that right there is funny. And those struts have always worn out too soon! I got tired of buying new ones for my '86 Z-28 and carried a sawed-off broom handle to hold up the rear hatch. I was really under paid back then, but that memory flash back just made me feel embarrassed to have done it.
Thanks alot guys!

And if you only change 2 spark plugs a month, you can pay for your spark plug change in 4 easy monthly installments!

Glad there’s still some sense of humor left on the internet.

There's probably some guy on youtube that can show you how to take them apart and fill them with a mix of febreeze and vegetable oil, so that they can be repaired for only 15 dollars each after buying the tools. They will look awful, work poorly, but smell great.

Nah man, they're under warranty! I'd bring in the hood struts from my 89 once a year and get new ones for free!!!! Keep the receipt and the plastic bag they come in. Guy behind the counter doesn't care! Probably did that for close to 10 years!

Did that what brake pads on my old diesel. Once a year I'd bring them in and swap them out.

I have a 2017 and have always thought the struts did a fine job dampening the opening motion, but not so great on the close.

I've seen that and the dude is a hack. I asked ChatGPT and it said you have to use olive oil as it compresses slower than vegetable oil.

So I bought new struts. New struts is for a 2016 Camaro SS. Not even close to the same size as what I pulled off. Also, I can’t find the part number listed on my original strut anywhere.
