Service recommendation

Hello,

I'm getting ready for a yearly oil change on my 2017 SS and was wanting recommendations on other fluid changes due to the age of the vehicle. I've always gone by the owners manual (miles) but I have no clue when it comes to a low mileage older vehicle?

2017 SS 5060 miles (purchased 12/2024 with 2800ish).

Yearly oil and filter change. Should I also do a a rear diff fluid change and transmission fluid change? I would assume the fluids are breaking down due to age? Near as I can tell these fluids were never changed (carfax service records).

Any help would be appreciated.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong in doing them if unsure or can't find previous service records. Fluids and filter changes/swaps are much cheaper than component changes.
If it were me, I'd do it all, just to be sure. Then you know going forward what's been done since YOU did it.

As Dave from Dave’s Autocenter in Utah says: the most expensive oil change is the one you didn’t do.

I’m a preacher for regular fluid changes. Especially on our babies. The fact all manufacturers have now gone to these 7,000-10,000 mile oil change intervals or follow the “maintenance minder” is just mind blowingly bonkers to me.

My oil changes never go beyond 3000 miles.
I noticed my camaro reminder came on friday at about 1700 miles. I think i did it in April.

Honestly it's a good idea to change the fluids early anyway, get any of the break in material out of there. I did my diff fluid at 4000-5000Km to do just that. Going to be doing my trans fluid soon (at about 20,000KM). Waaay before recommended but I'd just feel better about it.

Definitely do your fluids early, it's cheap insurance.

I’d change the trans fluid asap especially since they put the wrong fluid in these cars at the manufacturer and it can/will lead to engine shuttering at some point and it’s a hassle to fix once you start experiencing it.

This is a solid recommendation, Mobil1 has a special fluid that seems to work if you do it before the torque converter developed problems.

I would also flush the brake fluid, brake fluid is hydroscopic by design and will absorb moisture over time, this will result in sediment to form and gravity will deliver this to your calipers causing sticking, not to mention reduced boiling tempatures. Amazon has pressure bleeders with GM master cylinder cap for < $80, pushes the fluid from the master cylinder. Don't do the pedal pump method as it's ineffective and NEVER have the ignition on while pumping the brake with a bleeder open, you'll set about a have dozen codes.

Some of this is very basic automotive theory, with very minimal actual facts and inclusive test to support the theory.
But to correctly "bleed" your brakes, you need to use a scanner to put the brakes in a bleed mode that will cycle the abs pump and all the valves. Otherwise all the sediment your thinking will settle in the caliper will settle in the abs pump. So bleeding your brakes with the key off method is half ass enough that you probably shouldn't do it at all if you can't do it right.
