Save me from Myself!

I'm coming from a 4th gen where I took a stock car to a full bolt-on and head/cam car with 4:10 gears and twin disc clutch. It was a great car but became a chore to drive after it was modified. Heavy clutch with touchy engagment, way too loud, smelled like gas, some cam surge. I realize I made the car the way it was.

Fast-forward, now I've got a 2017 SS automatic nnp exhaust mostly stock (cold air intake and a tune) but am getting the urge to modify it.

What route do I take to not hurt the drivability of the car?
Can I add headers and leave the rest of exhaust alone and keep it quieter?
Should I just save my money and add a supercharger in the future?
Leave it alone and enjoy it? ha

Thanks for reading my ramblings!

Which Auto does your car have?

I have 2" ARH headers and no cats... however, I installed the Magnaflow Resonated X-pipe in my mid-pipes just before the eLSD and kept the NPP Exhaust. With the valves closed, its st00pid how quiet this car is... kinda freaky as its funny cruising through the paddock at the track like you're Jekyll and then on the track unleashing pure Hyde Fury! Watch this video and you will see cruising its so pleasant, your neighbors will love you... but on the track she's a mean beyotch! I am also working with AWE to bring a new system that uses their outstanding quality and wide open sounds with civility!

This link below skips to the 16min mark when I take my nephew for a ride during a session to chase down a BMW M3 with an LS3 swap and a C5 Z06 like Jeni's that has an LS7 N/A build.
Click to see the Exhaust sound difference between closed NPP and WOT at the track!

You can add headers and leave the rest of the exhaust alone if you want.

Add E85 and a tune for a little more power and much better performance in hot weather.

Buy a supercharger when you’re ready to have some fun.

‘17 SS will be the 8L90 for the auto transmission.

You could just leave it alone. Drive it like it is. Own a car that isn't a chore to drive or own. Except the likelihood of it being stolen is kind of a pain

The only thing "performance wise" that I installed was Borla type S cat back exhaust. It still under warranty, sounds nice IMHO. And is a blast to drive.

My car is 16 SS auto car with npp exhaust . I have a forged bottom end now, ported heads, long tubes hooked to the factory exhaust with cat delete. It's on e85 so no exhaust smell, I retained the npp factory exhaust so Its not loud except when I want it to be . It's still not as loud as any aftermarket exhaust. I have a stage 2 cam with the stock torque converter and it drives like a stock car. I have a 4rth Gen auto car with a big converter that's extremely loud that runs 6.40s N/A but it's too loud to drive all the time . I can daily my 6 gen with the exhaust quite no problem.

FBO + E. Intake, ported throttle body, intake manifold (ported LT1, LT2 MSD, High Ram), headers, flex fuel sensor. For no/less gas smell go high flow cats.

Its funny you guys say that. My car has a flex fuel sensor with dual tune. Ive never ran e85, just 93. I have longtubes with no cats and my tailpipes will kinda blacken from running slightly rich. But i never smell fuel at all.

i did basic bolt ons and ethanol. car still drove like stock, got better fuel mileage on 93 than stock and picked up roughly 10 mph in the 1/4 mile. only downside was it quickly lunched 2 injectors after the flex sensor, car had 19k on it at the time. easy fix, put another 20k miles on it after that with literally 0 issues.

After building my engine I installed an AWE touring axle back exhaust on it. I found it to be too loud even after installing sound deadening on the entire trunk and back seat. I went back to the stock npp muffler and like it better. Fast cars don't have to be loud.

Going to echo this, at a minimum, you should have a moblilistics installed before doing anything else. I FAFO after delaying getting it done.

I noticed it in my 5th gen. It was/is catless on E but sitting still with the windows down you absolutely smell it. Doesn't bother me but to each their own.

Very few E85 options in my area so can't do much with that. Maybe headers with high-flow cats and leave the rest of the exhaust alone.
Perhaps I should just go old-school and put a 150 shot of nitrous on it when I want to play...nobody seems to do that anymore. ha
