ZL1 Heat Soak after 1 lap
Got Zl1 1LE 2021 been runing super well on the road course for the last 3 years. Never experience a heat soak. Running super hard and never had problem for 20min session.
I was at the track and it was hot 90F, runnnig 20 min all day and no problem Last session got heat soak after 30 min. Coolant temp, oil pressure and boost look fine. But the oil temperature go very high and it start cutting power Go off track for the night. First session in the morning, Got heat soak after one lap. Since my first heat soak, it doing it after 1 lap. No code. Going on the track it pulling hard, put after one lap oil temp is high and power is down. Something is creating heat, or the oil coolant is not working well anymore? After some high heat, could it create air in the blower cooland system? Thank you |

What were your oil temps?

(Just before the small red line), big red line is at 320. |

I’d pull the oil cooler and check it for blockage.

If you haven't done so, bleed air from supercharger. I found my car ran my absolute sh!t until I bled it.

Now, I do not know what the max oil temp threshold is on a ZLE vs my SS 1LE but I think oil temp has to get higher than 290*F to get into power reduction. The red area on the gauge probably is that point. Based on many other ZL1 owner's feedback and experiences, I would be looking at the supercharger cooling system first as the culprit.

Until he chimes in, ill do my best to help also.. 1. If you are not able to data log with a PDR or HPT, then I strongly suggest an investment in a Banks iDash PRO DATA. So much data not only now visible while driving, but the ability to quickly and easily data log your entire track session and review later... You can read more about it HERE. 2. Based on your feedback it likely is an oil cooler issue but like others have said, without an iDash we are all blind to the performance of our HX cooling system. With an iDash or equivalent... you can at least monitor your IAT.3's which will be the best way to see if there is an issue in the system, which will pull alot of timing very quickly and eventually put you into limp mode. 3. The iDash will also enable you to monitor oil pressure (and set a low and or high alert) so that you might be able to save your engine with a quick shut down before too much damage is done. 4. Like you and others know, the OEM oil cooler "actually a heat exchanger" works by circulating engine coolant into a liquid transfer cooler that mounts to the side of the oil pan. Which as you have experienced... can work well, to a point. The point being when your oil temps pass the tipping point and transfer rate ability of the coolant flow to remove heat from the system. These cars make soooooo much heat, and alot of that is absorbed into the oil by design. With the experience you are sharing it's sounds like your oil cooler may need to be replaced due to a blockage. It's hard to imagine that your SCHX system is making any affect here, but like others have said, you should check and bleed your system often to ensure everything is flowing, since you are currently unable to monitor your IAT's. If your dealer is able to troubleshot and fix, please share your results.
