Roof inside fall off

Hello everyone, I have a question about the Camaro Gen 6. The headliner on the inside rear of my roof is coming loose. The roof has a tilt and slide roof. How can I install or remove it and see what's loose behind it? Pictures attached. Thanks in advance, Smudo

Hey Smudo, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the headliner replacement procedure in the service manual calls for removing and reinstalling the windshield, you cannot pull the headliner out (or insert a new one) through either door without damaging it.

However, you should be able to drop only the rear section of the headliner, after removing the two rear retainer clips marked with (1) in the picture below, then peek in or slip a borescope camera above it to see if the shock absorbing foam blocks broke or detached from it. Hopefully it's something easy that you can repair yourself.

I don't know about Germany, but in the USA you can order those clips quite cheaply from Amazon. I pulled mine out recently to attempt to tighten down the shark fin, and I was able to remove and reinstall them without breaking or damaging them.

Since I expect the cost of a second headliner would be less than the R&R cost for the windshield (and who wants to remove a windshield if you don't have to), here's a purely theoretical exercise.

What about buying two headliners and cutting/sawing them into front/rear pieces that will fit through the doors, but along different lines so you end up with a bit of overlap front to back. Then securing them together in some manner (velcro? rivets?) once they are in the car. Not optimal, but a potential way to work around this oddity in sixth-gen construction...

Well... I think I'd rather wait for the unavoidable pitting, or perhaps a rock chip hit to become bad enough to warrant windshield replacement, then replace it together with the headliner.

(Not a fan of frankensteining two headliner halves with velcro like this, you as the owner will always notice the "seam", and it could even become a ding when trying to sell the car.)
