Registered for COTA!
Man, I’ve been waiting for this registration to open for months. I’m fired up to drag my car all the way there and turn some laps!
Sept 27-28 with Chin Link to my YouTube with in car videos. Two COTA sessions are the most recent videos https://www.youtube.com/@474Camaro Last edited by redfish86; 10-07-2025 at 12:52 PM. |

Well LETS GEAUX!!! I am thinking of running this event as well if I can break away from work! Is your car ready for all that heat and abuse? LMK if you need help getting her perfect for the scorcher days there!

I ran at Barber in June. Hot Road Atlanta a couple weekends ago. Hot Road Atlanta again in a few weeks. Gonna be hot. No problems so far, but who knows? I will make sure I have fresh tires, brakes, and fluids; not sure what else I can do to get ready? I’m all ears if you have any suggestions. I’m pretty new at this game. I’m sure there is A LOT I don’t know… |

I recently ran a track day that was 100 degrees. I ran in the advanced group at my home track, running hard for full 20 minute sessions and the car was totally fine. No overheating, no brake fade, oil temp around 270 (no higher than usual). Do make sure your fluids are good (don't have to be fresh, just within the normal maintenance intervals for track use) and enough brake pad thickness left. For tires, I ran my SC3's since they handle the heat better than the RE71RS's and they were still getting hot and greasy. No damage to the tires or anything, just less grip and about 1sec off normal pace on a 1:20 lap. The bigger concern is taking care of yourself. Dehydration and heat exhaustion are for real. Drink lots of water and something with electrolytes. I like to alternate Gatorade and water between sessions. Depending on the organization rules, wear lightweight, breathable clothing. Use Air Conditioning to your advantage. If the track has an air conditioned classroom or shop, go cool down in there for a bit. If not, sitting in the car in the paddock with the AC on to cool yourself down is OK. Also, get to grid 5 minutes early and sit there with the AC on and windows up. Drop the windows and turn off the AC when they send you out on track. Turn the AC back on with windows still open on your cooldown lap and put windows back up once you are off the track making your way back to you paddock spot. Bring a change of clothes for the ride home.

I just recently towed my car from northern California to COTA, 100% worth every miserable minute of that drive!!! Amazing track! Amazing facility.

I ran COTA in April of 2024. It was amazing. I want to get back there with my own car.

I just had the opportunity to run COTA a few weeks ago on a private day, most of the day it was just my friend (C8 Z07) and I with the whole track to ourselves! What a crazy experience with a empty track with no traffic and unlimited run time. The fuel consumption while on track at COTA is crazy there is a lot of wide open throttle time. I was burning about a half tank a session, the C8 with it's even smaller tank was going through it even faster. Again keep in mind we were out on track for as long or as short as we wanted so some of the sessions were 30+ mins.

The fuel burn is crazy which is what lead me down the path of replacing the Oil Cooler as it was causing massive overfueling due to mis-matched fuel-cooling tuning imbalances. Watch the video below and see the raw fuel between gearshifts!! Its crazy! This was with full OEM exhaust with just a few bolt-on mods. The better video is from the guy chasing me on the motorcycle which is linked in the video description. Quote:

What an unbelievable experience. I’m simply blown away at having had the opportunity to run this track. I have a ton to work to do to get quick there, but all in all I think I did OK. I think my best lap was about 2:43, and that was with giving a few point bys. Didn’t bend anything, and I love the car with the Vorshalgs and SC3R, amazing grip. I ran away from more than one much faster car in the esses, so much fun when you hit the line just right! Hell, a guy in a C8 ZO6 spun in 20 trying to catch up.

Glad you all liked it. COTA is my home track. I have like 26 track days there. Being in the garages makes it an even better experience

I’ve been watching my videos, so much easier to see your mistakes on replay. I’ll remember. As an aside, man what in the hell is up with those roads around the track?! I think my trailer wheels were off the ground a couple times! Also, we really liked Meches |

Having gone there with Baddawg53 above, I concur, miserable drive from California but an amazing experience.
To be clear, I drove 1800 miles each way including 2 long days on track. I even got Randy Pobst to drive my car while I sat passenger. Epic experience indeed! |
