Odd starting issue(?) maybe
Hey everyone that is running full ethanol. From some research I had already done before going full ethanol, I read that it can be sort of a "slow crank" start during a cold start. What I find odd is, when I do "remote start" on cold start, the car cranks right up. What's the difference between the two? What is the car doing differently that one is different than the other. Anyone else notice this? Just an odd quirk I noticed.

Switch over to a lithium battery. I had that issue with an AGM as well. I think these engines just require more "oomph" than traditional batteries the size that is allowable are capable of is all. These cars are definitely power hungry anyway.

Hmm interesting thought, but it doesn't answer the question as to why when I remote start it doesn't have the same issue as opposed to just pushing the ignition start button.

The only difference I know of is: the BCM doesn't have the car all lit up when you use remote start. But it sure will be when you get in through the door. How much power is that? Don't know, probably a few amps.
I'd check the battery terminals. If you're feeling froggy and have a meter, do a voltage drop test on the and power wiring from the battery to the starter and back, including the grounds. Also probably won't hurt to throw on a battery tender for a couple days, the AGM might just (or also) be low on charge. |

Mine was the same way. It was lazy starting manually but remote start was pretty quick cranking. It doesn't exhibit any of those symptoms anymore since I switched a year/ a year and a half ago.

Thanks fellas, I also thought maybe the remote start feature "primes" the fuel pump and than starts, when the push start might not. Just throwing ideas out there. But it does make sense that when seated in the car and unlocked via remote or handle without remote starting, it may turn EVERYTHING on as opposed to the remote start.

![]() I got a good, cheaper solution though, for the battery if you want one. TONS cheaper than anti gravity and just as reliable. Seriously, I run this one in mine and it's been entirely problem free except for one time that I drained it down to protection mode on accident due to leaving a high power relay for my secondary fuel pump energized all day and night for two days. https://www.ebay.com/itm/29500135464...kAAOSwzeFgnBpK

I have a long crank hot start that happens if i stop somewhere for a few minutes and then go to crank again, Ive noticed if if i delay the starter lockout that i have for security for a few seconds after i hit the start button it starts fine, im guessing it needs a longer prime when hot thats the only thing that would make sense.

I had this issue after picking my car up from Katech this past spring. I even sent an email to Mike mentioned I noticed the had to crank over like 5 to 6 seconds before starting. Mike told me to check my battery voltage, and it was low. I charged the battery but still had the issue, but when checking the voltage it was still low. I put up with that for a few weeks and the battery finally totally died. Got a new battery and the car started perfectly like normal and ran fine!
