6th gen Camaro Engine won’t Shut Down
Hi fellow Camaro enthusiast,
I have an issue with my Camaro that I am unable to solve. Figured I would try my shot here. I have seen a couple of similar post here but with no clear resolution. Recently I’ve been having an issue with my 2019 Camaro SS. When pressing the stop button, everything will turn off except the engine. At this time, the security light, CEL, and rear view camera all slightly flicker to the rhythm of the engine running but everything in the car is non-operational. When clicking the start/stop button the car prompts stating “press down brake to start car” meaning it believes the car is fully off. If I hold the button for like 5 seconds, it will turn back all auxiliary features as if the car was just started but the engine never actually shut down. So far, the only way to get the engine to shut down is wait. Once I click the stop button, it can take anywhere between 1-20 mins and the engine will randomly decide to finally shut down. This behavior has caused my car to flag a CEL with the following codes: p1682, p0700 and p0561. From my research, P1682 is the most descriptive code and most likely the closest indicator of what’s going on where the others are just results of that one flagging. This code points towards it being something related to the ignition. I fixed this for a while my disconnecting the positive terminal on the battery for 15 mins, but it has now come back so I would like the determine the root of the issue. I’m interested in knowing if anyone has encountered this issue and can share what the fix was? I’ll be bringing it to the dealership soon to have them check it out but it would be nice to have some expectation of the root cause and possible repair bill. So far, I’ve tried switching around relays and changing the remote battery but I’m still getting the same behavior. Thank you in advance! |

Engine usually turns off after like 15-20 minutes in park and has safety reasons.
But the same problem had someone in my area just a few months ago, even after replacing the BCM and the start button it was not fixed. The issue and solution is this bulletin described. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...17766-9999.pdf

My car has the problem but I have found I can avoid it if I have the brake pedal firmly pressed when shutting down.

Thank you! Brought it to the shop today. They said my battery needed replacement and also the positive terminal of my battery was broken causing it not to tighten down all the way. They’re thinking this is causing the issue as the system could possibly not getting consistent voltage. Will post an update here tomorrow once the work is complete.

I saw your post from 2024. You never was able to determine what caused it? Someone on fb had a similar problem after replacing their battery and they said it was the heated seat wiring under the passenger side.

Where is the seat heating module? Under the dash for both seats? Or one for each seat?
The TSB says a short within the module backfeeds voltage to the start relay. |
