Camaro 2017 trunk rear release button doesn't work

Hello everyone,

I have a weird issue with the trunk back release button (the one above the licence plate).
The button stopped working all of a sudden so I decided to change it for a new one but that didn't fix the issue.
The strange thing is that the fob release works and the button in the cabin as well.
The button on the back doesn't make the trunk release respond at all.
I've measured the cables at the button itself and all seems to be working just fine, somehow the signal just doesn't get to the trunk release unit...
Can somebody please point me in the right direction on where to look because I have no idea where to go from here.

I have read pretty much all threads about buttons or the trunk release not working but none of those had the issue I'm having (un)fortunately.
Thanks in advance!

There is an infotainment setting to disable the external switches (trunk and doors). Do the buttons on the exterior door handles unlock the car?

I definitely wouldn’t have thought of a software lockout. Good info!

I don't think this setting existed in the pre-refresh 2017 infotainment, but OP will let us know for sure.

I think you are right, at least based on my old 1LT. I just checked the photos I took of the infotainment setting screens for my 2016 (so I could transfer them over to my 2021), and the Passive Door Unlock settings had just two options - driver door or both doors. So there was no "off" setting as is available on my 2021, so that's not the issue, unfortunately.

Yes all other buttons work with locking and unlocking the car, also the tiny ones on the door handle.

This is a totally a guess but perhaps something to consider: The trunk will not open when the car is in valet mode. Perhaps somehow the car thinks it or the fob is doing the valet thing..?

I have no idea what you mean by that unfortunately hahaha

I needed to Google it but I'm pretty sure my model doesn't have that function.
All I can think of is that the BCM might be faulty? Idk what else can be the issue.
There is power going to the button and the button itself works as intended to.
