Detailing Wheel Covers

I’m tired of washing my car, blow drying it, parking it in my garage, only to find my brakes are rusted to the rotors. This happens in a matter of a couple days. I’m considering buying detailing wheel covers for when I wash my vehicle. Does anyone have any experience/suggestions? I appreciate everyone’s help.

I drive the car about a mile after washing and drying, braking often to stave off residual water and clean away any surface rust. Never had an issue with pads sticking, except the one time I stupidly forgot to do this routine. My car sits in the garage a lot, it isn't a daily driver.

Problem solved! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...1VCSLB0K&psc=1

I wash my car after every day I drive it. I use a dry dryer to blow the water off it (I never use a towel or cloth to dry it. I also use Gyeon Wet Coat, it's amazing ! I detail it every weekend. I never have issues with rust on my rotors since using Hydes Serum !

I hope that helps!!!

How do you apply Hyde’s serum, and how often? Is Gyeon wet coat for your wheels? I’m not familiar with it.

Thank you

Unfortunately the road I leave on is not very nice, so if I drive on it, after washing my car, it gets it dirty again. I have driven back and forth in my driveway a few times and that definitely helps. I’m trying to see if anyone has purchased the detailing wheel covers and if they like them.

Thank you for your suggestions

It's a spray coating. You can use it on the wheels, but it's typically used on the entire car. It has nice hydrophobic properties. It wouldn't do anything to help your rust issue, 2023 ZL1 Auto was just letting you know he uses that for a coating on his car.

My car is a daily driver, so it doesn't sit for extended periods. Like others, I often drive it after detailing to remove the rust. I'm in a Facebook group of professional detailers, but haven't heard of anyone using the wheel covers. Wheel & tire cleaning is always part of the process, so that's probably why they don't use covers.

TL/DR: Don't put it away with wet brakes.

The problem: Water will dissolve into the transferred binder layer on the rotor, as well as into the pad itself and turn the binder into glue, which then dries as it sits and bonds the pads to the rotors.

The solution: An easy 3 minute drive around the block will dry out the pads and rotors enough that then they won't stick.

EDIT: Yeah if you live on a dirt/gravel road that will make this challenging. Maybe driving the car back and forth a few times down the driveway while riding the brakes to get some heat into them will help. The anti-rust spray is certainly worth a shot for the money. If not, go for the RV wheel covers.

Thank you for the advice on Hyde’s Rust stopper…I ordered a bottle…will give that a try next time I wash it. I am a lot like you and wash my car often, sometimes it’s simply to remove the dust or pollen, but the wheels aren’t very dirty so I may try the detailing wheels covers too. I’ll keep you posted as to how both workout.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Buy some Atom-mac, put it in a spray bottle.

Spray your rotors after you're done washing your car.

No worries going forward.

One of the best things I learned from the 911 crowd.

Ive had rotors frozen once that so bad I really had to work it hard to get loose and that was with Z26 pads on it.

I want to let 2023_ZL1-AUTO know that I tried Hyde’s Rustopper, and it works GREAT! I washed, and blow dried my car, applied Hyde’s to my brakes, then pulled my car in the garage, the next couple of days I detailed my car and 3 days after washing it backed it out of my garage and to my amazement no sticky brakes. I used it on both my ZL-1 and Corvette and it worked great on both vehicles…Thank you for the recommendation
