850-900whp Street Tires

I know this has been beaten over and over but I’m hoping someone has got some real world experience with these tires to chime in and help me out. Car is getting built soon and should be around the 850-900 range. Aside from getting a beadlock I’m trying to see what would work on the stock ZL1 1LE wheels the best. It’s just a weekend fun car that we take to events with friends and sometimes take the Mexico route for fun. My 3 top contenders seem to be the R888r
555R2
Toyo R (new version of RR)

My concern with the Toyo R is the highway driving if they’d be ok or not, we don’t go in the rain so I’m not worried about wet roads.

Any input would be appreciated, especially if you’ve done some real world testing around the same power levels! Thank you!

555R2 on the rear, whatever tire you want on the front unless you plan on doing a 17" conversion, then it's going to be a MT ET Street R.

Tires

I’m at 870whp. Nittos are ok. Best tire I found. Mickey Thompson street ss. I run a 305-35-20. I did get all 6 bars from BMR to get my wheels at zero for full tread contact. I can go from a dig. It’s awesome

If the RR is in the discussion why not the ET street R?

The 555RII and R888R are more of a street tire. Since those are in the conversion M/T ET Street SS should be as well. If your looking to do a dig or even 40 roll i think you will be hard pressed to find a tire that will stick instantly. The instant torque of the pd blowers are hard on tires. I have the 555RII in 305/35/20, a little over 800whp and similar torque but twin turbo. 2nd gear boost comes in it'll get on traction control. 3rd gear is fine, can even brake boost it.

Yeah it’s never going to see a drag strip so that’s why I was looking into which of the more streetable tires will work the “Best” it’ll be rolls on the highway if anything.

How are they on the highway? I’ve heard a lot of issues with the MT swaying at higher speeds because of the softer sidewall, same comments for the 555R2 but not as bad, and the R888r seem to be the most stable because of the hard sidewall for a road course tire

I won’t run my ET Street R on the street. They shine on a prepared track. Most people seem to love the 555R2 on the street for their traction and stability, and I’ll be trying those soon for street use. I’m running the R888R and they’re great for putting down decent power on the street and their high speed stability…but they’re loud so I’m going to try the 555R2 this time around.

The 555RII are an amazing street tire. Zero sway and they're as quiet as the Pilot 4S i had prior. I was between the R888R, M/T SS and 555RII. I went away from the Mickeys because I was worried about the sway I read about, even though I driven a 1k hp ZL1 on the interstate with no issues . Didn't want the loudness of the R888R. My mustang friend (10R80 car with a ESS G3 on 14lbs) recommended the Nitto and I'm extremely happy with them. 10/10 would buy again. They're comfortable into the triple digits as well. They hold the power well too. I run them cold at 27psi then with the FL heat they get to 30/32.

Don't know if it's a factor for you but the Nittos are W speed rated (168) where as factory tires and the R888r are ZR rated (200+). I feel like that factor is negligible.

I use either Toyo RR 345/19 or 555Rii 325/50R15 and MT ETSR 325/50R15 on the strip. I can get the Toyo to hook in 4th w/o TC.

Nothing is available that will hook in 1st or 2nd and 3rd (cool) with that power on the street. Don't get your hopes up.

I ran 555RII for a little (345/30R19) and it was not as sticky at MT ET Streets but much better handling.

What he said!

'm not at 850rwhp, but with my Nitto R555R2's on stock size wheels. When I would do a pull from 2500rpm in 2nd or 3rd, I'd just spin till hitting 4th. Also, 4th would have some traction lose at first if that was the gear I started the pull in. Now, with my 17x10's Weld Solana's with MT ET Street Rs mounted. It dig in 2nd and up with no issues! Best traction tire I've had so far!

No matter how I creep up on it, neither the Toyo RR nor Nittos 555Rii will bite in second or third, my first gear is deleted, but I believe if I ease into third really slowly on the ET Street Rs, I think I've got them to something like 90% bite. On the other hand in fourth in manual I can get all three of them to bite if I keep the feel all the way through the gear

I wonder if the Toyo R might be a good option then for you, it’s 40tw so similar to the ET Street R just a couple grooves
