Cam and intake without headers

I’m thinking about putting a cam and a few other things in over this next winter. I really don’t want to do headers unless it’s absolutely necessary. I have Kooks and green cats on my supercharged 6.2L F150, and hate the odor while idling. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sound they give cammed Camaros, but with the potential for the foul odors and the mediocre figment with the ball flanges, I’m not too quick to spend $4k+ to maybe get another 15hp. A good amount of that is probably with the tune anyway.

The big thing I’m curious about is the choppy cam sound with oem manifolds and either the NPP system or a Corsa variable. I’m looking mostly at the BTR 220 or a close equivalent, LT2 intake, ported TB. I don’t drive the car very hard, but would like a little mid-range bump in power, and a good sounding idle.

When I get time, I’m going to reach out to some of the vendors here and run this setup by them and see what they say.

You’ll be fine. Stock exhaust doesn’t flow that badly. You can pull the OEM exhaust and do some light porting to help it along, especially where it meets the primary cats. But a small cam and LT2 intake on it is fine.

Agree...look at the Cam Motion Titan 1. Works with stock headers, exhaust, converter. The BTR 220 likely would be fine as well. It will still chop no problem. I have heard the 220 both ways.

Do you know where I can find a video or sound clip of a Camaro with stock headers and a cam? I will want a little more bump in exhaust note without being obnoxious. Is it worth anything deleting the secondary cats?

Deleting secondary cats at your level won’t be worth any power but will make the exhaust maybe 15% louder.

How bad is exhaust odor with headers on these cars? Are the Gesi green cats any better at odor elimination than any other regular cat? I’ve read where some have said a lot of that is in the tune. I mainly don’t want a stinky car when sitting and idling.

Headers really add a lot of power to the LT1 above 5000 rpm and maintain both the power and torque to redline.

And with a cam, headers will help even more.

Define “a lot”… on a stock car that is most certainly not true.
