'17 SS Oil pump done. (Doing it myself)

It's been a nightmare trying to do this myself in the driveway, bad weather, breaking tools... you name it. I got to where I'm dropping the subframe and was hoping someone could hook me up with some knowledge.

Do I have to remove engine mounts?

Do I have to lift the engine to get the pan off?

What should I look out for?

Side piece of info.... I took almost all of my oil pan bolts out by hand. Damn near every bolt was loose. If you've never checked since buying yours, get under there and look...

'Preciate yall for the help.

While I haven't pulled the oil pan with the motor in the car, I have pulled the motor out the top, multiple times. I can have it out of the car and mounted on an engine stand in a leisurely 3 - 4 hours, and that's dealing with a pd blower, which adds a little time & complexity. There is a learning curve associated with this, as with anything else, but you should still be able to do it easily in a day or less. Once out, the pump swap is a walk in the park, and you can do a much better job resealing the pan. I would go this route if I were you. I should probably mention that I have a 2-post lift, and dropped the engine out the bottom once. In my opinion, pulling it out the top is a quicker and easier option.

By any chance have you done a write-up on the procedure or have any interest in doing one? I’m wanting to pull mine and do several mods later this year.

I haven't done a write-up, but if someone hasn't already done one, I could probably be talked into doing it. My mods will make it difficult to do a detailed, step by step procedure for a stock car, but generally speaking either the blower or the intake manifold need to come off first, and the intake removal on a stock car is very straightforward. Everything else is the same.
