This is new to me, but maybe others know about it.

There is feature in the Soler Throttle Controller that allows you to "lock" the throttle to zero, effectively making the gas pedal completely dead. I use this feature when I have to park the car somewhere and think it's a nice security benefit, especially because there's no way to easily see that a throttle controller is installed. It's kind of crazy Pedal Commander is charging extra for this basic feature, but I guess that's business for you...

Well, Soler doesn't lock it to zero completely, but it locks it down to about 2-3 mph. Not exactly getaway speed, LOL! But yes, that's another nice added feature. I keep forgetting to use it.

Since Soler is listed in you bio, I presume you are referring to that device.

Seems like it would be easy for a thief to bypass? They bust side window out, pop hood, unplug, continue on their way?

Neither are going to be a prevention in itself.


Just one more item to throw in the mix to slow them down enough to "deal" with them or to deter them to move on.

I don't know about the Pedal Commander, but the Soler does not plug into anything under the hood. You'd have to remove the gas pedal assembly, unplug the Soler unit, put everything back together - and then deal with any other theft deterrents that are in place.

I had to look into this.


Any of these similar devices are just plugging into existing spots and adding their harness in between the stock harness plug and the plug itself.


Someone would have to find that connection and make it back to factory.


This is just more time involved and not necessarily something they would be thinking about.
You could bury this somewhere and make locating it a nightmare.

I have the Soler Bluetooth throttle controller, which comes with the built-in feature to disable the throttle pedal. The car will not be able to accelerate via the throttle pedal, but can still move at the rate allowed by engine idle. A thief who is expecting to make a quick getaway may end up bailing on a car when it turns out the gas pedal doesn't work and the car is only moving at an idling rate of speed.

After reading the Pedal Commander website, it sounds like it is the same sort of functionality (disabling the gas pedal's input), but on an extra-cost subscription basis...

I do like having the Soler lockout feature as an extra layer of security, and that is the primary reason I bought the Soler unit. I would not have been interested in buying one if the lockout feature was a software change that required a subscription.

The Pedal Commander plugs into the OBDII port, which is a better interface in my opinion.


I wonder how the theft function works if the thief is using the OBDII port and unplugging the device!?!?

Doesn't sound very legit. I would probably check with Arlo https://arlo.pissedconsumer.com/review.html what they can say about this security method, those guys are pros and always up to date with the latest tools and threats. It’s better to double-check before trusting anything questionable, especially when it concerns safety and tech.

This is an added layer of slowing the thief down, but an easy bypass.
