GM Black Lugs
Is there any similar quality lugs I could get for cheaper? $200 seems a bit steep.
What am I getting for paying that price vs something like this? I mean if there is a significant safety/ quality issue I'll save up the dough for the locking nuts and black lugs, but sheesh, when not on sale they are over $300 Edit: Just did a mockup checkout, they want $33 for shipping. Come on now.

I’ve found over the years there is no substitute for oem lug nuts. If you don’t want to deal with chipping and rust, you have to pony up for the oem ones.

The OEM black are slightly thinner than the standard chrome, I bought mine off FB Marketplace for $80 and all were good condition

Get the McGard wheel installation kit. 16 lugs + 4 locks and they're the only decent locks on the market, most OEMs use them.

I found a reasonable deal (i.e. $100) on an unused set on Ebay. I haven't looked in a long time, but there used to be lots for sale there.

Some of those prices for lugs seem crazy to me.

Not what you're looking for but based on a recommendation from@DaveC113 I picked up a set of these for my Welds.

Gorilla, just as good, $40 a set.
I've run spline style and now using 13/16" version IIRC. On some wheels you do need thinwall socket.. ie thinnest i found is sparkplug, which is good enough to torque them on.

The Gorilla lugnuts started rusting after just a few wheel removals, along every single edge that the torque wrench came into contact with (and I don't even use an impact with the Camaro, only a breaker bar, non-marring sockets and a torque wrench). In contrast, the McGards are still looking brand new after 3 years, even after having a tire shop install new tires and using who knows what on them. More expensive, sure, but definitely worth the money in this case.

These lug nut covers are another option and lots of colours. No problems after 2 years.

Another vote for the McGard lug nuts - in use here since 2021 and no issues. Should save you about $100 compared to that GM quote (and perhaps with free shipping as well, depending on where you order from).
I chose the 22mm "black chrome" McGard lug nuts after reviewing other options - see this linked post for more info and a comparison photo: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...35&postcount=3 The locking lugs used by GM are rebranded McGard units, I believe. I am using a vinyl cap to cover the end of the locking lugs. I think it helps them blend in better, and it keeps gunk out of the key groove. Last edited by The Maverick; 04-05-2025 at 03:53 PM. |

I used to swap wheels 10-12 times per season, never has issue with surface finish and I certainly also drove the car in the winter
![]() It's not like i baby them either, they get dropped into used dishwasher pod bin until next time i need thinner lug nuts of some sets of aftermarket wheels. It's one of those items that is a consumable, so try not to pay more than I need to, so when I see wear or damage... replace the set. Buried in back of garage until... you need a spare.
