Hi everyone,



Tried on searching, but every time I try to search for specific keyword page just goes blank. I got ZLE, trying to find engine oil, every manual I found says 10q, but I know ZLE have aux coolers so I was expecting more. Also tried new oil Valvoline full synthetic 5w-30. Apparently rated as Dexos 1 gen 3. High performance says can try to use Valvoline SYNPOWER MST 5W-40. dealer I get oil from is half the cost of mobil 1 dexos 2.



I check dexos 2 authorized list and they are not on it?




Someone shed some light please.

The oil cooler is a water (coolant) to oil heat exchanger. There is not much gain in oil capacity from it. And the aux coolers are coolant to air, the oil is irrelevant.

Your owner's manual specs 0W40 for the ZLE and if tracking, 15W50. As long as the oil is spec'd Dexos, you're good.

My oil cap say 5w30. My zle is 2018, I believe in 2019 they went 0w40. I did not have 0w40 available so i put 5w30 volvoline in. they assured me dexos rated but i cannot find them on the approved list. What's also appealing is they were half the cost. also used vo200 oil fiter, not much specs on, everyone talks about bypass opening pressure. AI says volvo filter is 10-15 psid, somone on here wrote 22psid. what a mess. I wish some manual were clear.

Cool on the 5W30 being the early spec. Honestly, if you run it hard, 0w40 would be the betters choice. And for the filter, PF64 and send it. No reason to overthink any of this.

Yeah, I figured as much. Read somewhere they updated it to 0-40 or 5-40 after 2019. But then even dealer filled 5-30 because it’s okay if you don’t track it. I was in a pinch and got oil changed elsewhere. That place happens to sell Volvoline only. Assured me it’s dexos approved. So they use full synthetic 5w30. With VO-200 oil filter, didn’t have 0-40 dexos approved. Hopefully gets me through few months. Only found their oil is dexos 1 3rd gen approved and filter just generic one, with zero data, other than googling, saying 12-15psid relief bs 22psid for delco one.

GM changed the oil spec because they were seeing issues with the earlier spec oil. They have data on millions of run hours on the LT1. Ignore at your peril.
