Tire Size ( 26” )

I’ve looked and can’t really find good info .
Can I please get some feedback.

‘16 SS A8 FBO - car is lowered and have some 17s.The car sits on 305/45/17 are they’re tight and just inside fender. They’re 28” tall Tire .

Im looking at switching to 275/40/17 instead with them being 26” tall tire. They fit better with room, I’ve read 26” are better for NA cars?
Any 1st hand experience with 26” tires on their car, any issues?

Thanks.

The 28 is going to be much better for traction. The 26 will trap a little higher mph, but it will ride rougher and look off imo.

I’ve tried both. I’d only go 26 on a n/a manual.

26" DR for an Auto and go with the 28 if you have a M6 but this only applies to NA cars

I've heard the opposite. 28" for autos, 26" for M6. Any idea why the 28" would be better for a manual?

because manual cars hit the tires harder on launch so they can use the extra sidewall to cushion the shock there is a couple of corvette guys running 275/40/17s over on the corvette forums one runs in the 9s the others running in the 10s with bolt ons and all of the autos also one running 315/35/17s running in the 9s hope this helps but honestly you dont need a 305/45 on a NA auto car it may look cool but will run slower save those for boosted cars

Got it. If i'm more concerned about from a roll, lets say 60-130, is the 28" still the play on a M6 car?

These N/A Manual cars need the gearing more than the sidewall. The rear is strong and you shouldn’t be popping the clutch so I never was concerned with the shock. I didn’t have traction problems either

What you’re saying is true only for an actual wrinkle wall slick. So it wrinkles down close to a 26” on launch and then grows to more a 28 on the back end. Those tires are strip only, no street anyway

A dot bias ply, stiff walled bias ply, or radial that doesn’t work. We don’t have rear gear options. The 28 is much slower.

A 275/40r17 is more than enough tire for a bolt on m6 SS.
That’s a 26”…

although this is true on the latest DR tires still the internal gearing of a M6 is more aggressive and still shocks the tires harder upon launch and regardless an Auto will go faster/quicker with a shorter tire
