Green Belt did me dirty

So I put a green belt on my car last night and was driving to cars and coffee today and it went kaput. As I was driving, I was smelling something that smelt like burning rubber. All types of lights can on, so I pulled over and looked under the hood belt was gone. Luckily when I purchased the green belt, I also ordered a normal gates belt and threw it in the trunk. After putting on the standard belt and topping off the antifreeze I drove back home with no issues.

Also let me add I was just cruising when the green belt crapped out but, on the way back home I did a few pulls to make sure things were ok and nothing. My last time buying a green belt I'll just stick to the standard belts they work just as well to me.

Not saying this is what you did but when you put the belt on there is a sneaky metal part sticking out. If you go on the wrong side of that you will kill the belt really fast.

A standard belt will do just fine for 99% of Centri cars. I use Goodyear belts since I procharged my '08 Mustang back in the day. Cost a fraction of what ATI will sell you a standard gates belt for, too . Put 70k/mi on that D1SC making 14psi. Did everything from drag racing at Test 'n Tunes to Track/Autocross, never threw a belt or needed to replace it before I sold the car. Probably would have replaced it at 100k/mi just as a prevention. If you chew through belts there are other issues. The green belts are usually "heavy duty" they are usually a little beefier than a standard belt but also more stiff. I think PD FI setups abuse belts more than Centri's, there would be an advantage to those builds to have a tougher belt, especially if they're strangling the blower snout with a small pulley, the tension game has to go up and it really stresses the belt. Centri's can pulley down to the max as well and experience belt slip, but you really got to go out of your way to stress the belt as there aren't many ways to increase tension, and Procharger's bracket design is pretty efficient at maximizing pulley-to-belt surface area contact.

I doubt the green belt failed. A condition presented itself for the belt to come off is far more likely.

I threw the belt on this build just dinking around on the street, it had me scratching my head and double checking pulley alignment, everything squared up nicely so I reset the tensioner and put the belt back on (fortunately the belt just laid at the bottom of the engine compartment and didn't get tore up or damage anything). I haven't thrown it since. I think perhaps the tensioner slacked on a boosted shift and let the belt jump enough to walk off. Since this is a 2017 kit, it might be possible the tensioner isn't up to spec anymore, would have to call Procharger and find out if there's a method to test tension via torque or if it has to be sent in to be tested. Can't imagine the spring will last forever.

Yea I can't say what the problem was with that green belt but just as you said threw on a standard gates belt and no issues. Before the green belt I had been using the Goodyear belts anyway without issue so I'll just go back to those like you stated.
