Battery

Any recommendations for a battery for the 22’ ZL1?
They all seem to be around $250,even the GM delco
Is $270 they all have a 3 year warranty, is there anything
Out there that’s better that the oem?
PS original battery was always on trickle charger
Car was always garaged, battery literally dropped
Dead, had to get it jumped to get it home!

I went with a Delco. $250 is about right.

If you had an AGM-rated maintainer/tender on it, it shouldn't have been a problem. An old school 12v "trickle charger" will overcharge and kill an AGM. Might just be casual phrasing, but having the correct tender/maintainer on the battery does matter.

I had to replace the battery in mine a few months ago and bought a Platinum Duralast battery from AutoZone. It was around $250.00.

Older units might just supply a steady voltage to the battery. I have an old Centech 42292 from Harbor Freight that works this way. Always on and always 13.2 V.
Newer units are smart chargers and monitor battery voltage and adjust output accordingly. They may shut down occasionally and wait for resting voltage to dip before turning back on. There is a wide variety of these smart trickle chargers available. They are typically $20-30 as they don't need to output more than 1 amp.

I also have units that will both recharge and trickle from NOCO and Ctek, which are both good brands. The true recharge capability adds to cost. Figure about $100.

I also got a 2-pack deal on Nexpeak trickle chargers from amazon as a black friday deal (2 for $20), and these are surprisingly good with an informative LCD display.

Shocked you’ve only gotten 2-3 years out of the battery. Mine lasted 7 years. It was still holding a charge when I replaced it. I just knew at 7 years old it was going to die sometime in the near future and I didn’t want to be stranded somewhere.

Having the battery in the trunk and away from the engine heat seems to make the battery last a little longer. When the battery is under the hood, it’s been my experience that GM batteries tended to crap out after 3-4 years.

Unfortunately most car batteries are either made in China
India,or some other foreign countries!, (wheels on ZL1
Are made in China!!,it says it on the barrel of the wheel)
So with that being said, quality control is a moot point,
And battery life is a roll of the dice.

For $166 plus tax, it’s a steal, but I’m a little suspicious
If it’s a rebrand,or used? I’ll find out when I receive it.
