Grinding-ish under hard braking (Tremec 3160 and V6 LGX)
Sometimes under hard braking to a stop, I will feel and hear what seems to be a slight grinding-like vibration/noise from the gear shift area—not specifically the shifter.
It happens when the transmission is in gear or neutral and usually when I am coming to a stop. It does not happen often. I originally thought the transmission did not like going into second gear when cold, but it happens when out of gear, too. It lasts only a second or so. The noise is barely audible and the grinding-like sensation minor. If I put my hand in shifter area, I can feel it but cannot pinpoint whether it comes from the transmission or elsewhere. This has been noticeable in only in cold weather. I think it has been like this since new or perhaps the year after. The noise/vibration seems to be happening more often. I ignored it before but now am beginning to wonder what is going on. I changed the transmission oil last summer FWIW. I do not think it is the transmission—but could be wrong. It seems more like something is momentarily touching the vibrating (running) drivetrain. I took the inside boot(s) off and could see nothing amiss in the shifter area. I looked under the car and all bolts and linkages seem to be okay. I noticed that there *might* be metal-to-metal rubbing between the end of the shift linkage and part of the brace attached to the body/drivetrain. It was very minor if at all. If so, it would be when the shifter is extended while put into a gear such as second. 2017 2LT with V6 and M6 Tremec TR-3160 and approximately 45k miles. Has anyone else experienced this noise/vibration issue? |

Change the fluid and check the rear transmission mount in the process.
