Camaro vs Corvette on blind spots

I’ve owned muscle cars and Corvettes for most my driving life and I will say I’ve never really thought the GEN 6 Camaro was that hard to see out of compared to other sports cars. In fact it’s funny you don’t really hear that about the C8 Corvette…. I guess it’s just expected. Any way I went with my buddy to pick up his new Eray vert and you can’t see anything out the back… mirrors use only but, man what a car!

I had a 2000 C5 FRC Corvette for over 10 years, Now RS Camaro 2024, For years I been hearing about visibility issues with the Camaro, I should have not listened and got one long time ago, It is much better than my C5 in every way, even with the V6, and more comfortable!!

I didn't find it hard to get used to at all. I suppose it's also not the first car I've driven with less then ideal visibility..

Your post should be a wakeup call for the apologists for the death of the Camaro. Years of whining about visibility, lack of back seat space and poor trunk access (all vital sports car attributes) became self-fulfilling boogeymen. I actually wonder if I could have been dissuaded if I had been more aware of these horrible defects.

So true.

I, along with others, tried to debunk these perceived "dealbreakers" a million times, but the meme is just too strong. I have peripheral vision issues and yet I got used to the "horrible" visibility in 10-15 minutes, had no problem using the backseat while my kids were younger (and didn't have their own vehicle), and the trunk happily swallowed up 4 carry-ons and a few extra bags when we moved to TN from up north.

Now, could these drawbacks be improved? Absolutely (split taillights, anyone at GM? BMW has been doing that since an eternity, even other GM vehicles have them), I doubt the roofline really had to be lower than the 5th gen, and in fact the rear mirror camera in the 2020+ solves any remaining concerns with visibility, but at the end of the day this is a freaking sports car, not an Escalade, dammit.

For me, there was nothing to get used to, coming from a C5 FRC which is even worse than the coupe Corvette was actually better visibility in the Camaro, Much better headlights compared to my Vette and the car is truly better in every way! My Vette had 345 hp LS1 6 speed manual, which was a joy to own! Never any problems, But my Camaro with the 10 speed is so much nicer to drive, with the V6 it feels faster than my Vette, I am not saying it is, just feels like it!

I have always heard of how good the chassis on the 6th gen Camaros is, But once I test drove it, I knew I had to have it, much easier to get in and out of then my Vette, this car is solid, No shakes or rattles, drives like a proper sports car, handles great! The look of the Camaro in my opinion is much nicer than a Mustang or Dodge, Did not even consider anything else because I have always loved the looks of the 6th gen! I actually love the 2016-2018 a bit more but got a new one anyways!

And honestly, first time I drove it ( on a test drive at the dealership) I am like what blind spots !! Guys trash talking you can't see anything out of the car etc etc! Sure , you do not have the panoramic view of a mini van but this is a sports car and I expected this, turned out to be better than my Vette and I am sure it is better than many sports car out there. I know many guys said terrible things about the Camaro never actually owned one!

I also never had a single issue with visibility out of my car. I got someone really mad at me (not intentionally) in a facebook group when I said if you can't handle the Camaro visibility you can't handle the more expensive performance cars either. I still stand on this.

Haha, the difference is that visibility issues in those cars are just blindly accepted as "normal": you physically can't see **** out the rear or even rearward on the sides, but that's never even mentioned in reviews, while the Camaro gets hit with the meme every single time. Very weird.

I will say that the Camaro's C pillar is pretty beefy, so it exactly isn't a glass bubble in terms of visibility either, but it's more than adequate, and again, it's a sports car. Widescreen front windshield, nice and long side windows, rear view camera for those that need it in the back, blind spot monitoring... end of story.

WHEN I GOT MY 2021 LT1 i never did even think about it as there was no change from my C6's and 7's. Just drove a C8 and it is worse and very tight inside. Would love a 8 but i can't go fishing offshore in one as there is no room for anything.

I think the visibility is fine in my camaro. Honestly the most annoying thing is the onstar lights on the mirror that never go off, I keep thinking it's the police behind me lol.

Initially, I hesitated to buy a Gen 6 Camaro because of the negative press about visibility. Glad I test drove one and came to a different conclusion.
When I was in my 20s, I drove a new 1973 Vette as my daily and later, a new 76 Vette. (lucky guy). If you've never driven a C3, you can't talk about visibility. Way low seating (no power adjust), swoopy front fenders and a small back glass with sail panels. A driver's side only outside mirror. No one complained, magazine reviews never brought it up. To Corvette owners of the day, that made the Vette a cool experience and added to the mystique. I've also driven the C4-C6 and visibility issues surfaced, but no one bitched. I've never even sat in a C8- they're not my cup of tea.
Today's young guys and gals that write automotive reviews are wusses and complaint artists. They spend too much time in SUVs. Today's motorists are too dependent on nanny controls and don't know how to use mirrors.

LOL you can get golf clubs in the trunk of a C8 (and C7, C6 and C5) and obviously a Corvette, the only GM sports car has no rear seat an up to the C8 (which has a camera to provide a good rear view in the rear view mirror) had great rear visibility.

Camaro died because it was designed for a very small customer base, Gen5 Camaro buyers. And in that segment a lot of people were looking for a different car than the Gen6 was designed to be. Sad, yes, but GM knew what they did and in the end taphat was a mistake.

But hey! At least we get to watch the Mustang die when it has zero competition in the segment.

I sat in a Camaro, must've been Gen5, at a dealer. Said no way, not only about visibility, but I am old and some parts just don't work like they used to, knees. And I am used to looking out a Peterbilt windshield, you can see everything, and that little front glass on the Camaro was like making me squint. But then we did a test drive, and you know, it was not to bad. And we even managed to get in and out of the thing. Now, there is not a problem seeing out, adjust your mirrors correctly and you can see the whole side and opposite lane. And after I get in her, she is wrapped around me, I love that feeling. 55 degrees today, almost got her out, but streets were wet with melt.

Without the rear view camera, I would not have my 23 ZL1. Passed on a 15 C7 Z06, couldn't see out back. Now my C6 vert, no blind spots, top always down.
