The 3 tires I'm thinking of when my Ecsta P51's wear out
The contenders are:
1. Continental Extreme Contact DWS ($1,295.33 installed) 2. General G-Max A/S 07 (1,058.00 installed) 3. Firestone Firehawk A/S V2 ($1,109.00 installed) I've run a few General tires on my '13 (GMax AS 03, GMax AS 05 and a 'V' tread pattern tire they had in the mid 90's), and have had good luck with them. I had a set of Firehawk SS10 tires (think BFG Radial T/A or Eagle GT) on my mini truck, that did really well for an entry-level performance tire (I drove that truck like I was autocrossing everywhere). I have no experience with any Conti's. As you can see, price-wise they are very close. I know many here have chosen the Conti's, so I guess that it will get the most votes, but I'm interested in hearing opinions on all three.

The car is driven in the rain and light to light-moderate snow, and the additional, full-depth siping on the Firehawks VS the Conti's makes me believe they would be better in wet/snow-slush than the Conti's, so for about $250ish less, it seems the Firehawks might be the better choice for weather when it's not sunny & dry.

It's really hard to evaluate the Firestones because I don't any published tests on them. Your logic on the siping making it a better snow tire is sound, but the tread compound matters a lot as well. The Conti DWS is a well tested product, and it's at the top of the class of high-performance all-seasons along with the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4. I use it as my "winter tire" in the St. Louis area. It's strength is retaining good dry/warm performance while providing amazing wet grip and aquaplane resistance. I use mine in snow and they work fine: as long as the snow is low enough to clear my 1LE splitter (maybe 4" max), these are fine. On a Passat I used to own, I had a previous generation of the DWS and drove that in blizzard conditons. They work. Given that any all-season tire is a compromise, the DWS strikes me as a great compromise for a car like a Camaro.
The General appears to be a good new version too. This may be a case where all three of your options are reasonable choices. Tire Rack has a video of a big test that include the Conti and General.

I completely get what you’re saying as to why the Firestones might be better. I still believe that even in a 6/10 driving style, the Conti’s will feel and perform better than the firestones. As Msquared mentioned, the DWS is well tested and actually performs pretty well in milder winter conditions and the wet. I think you can’t go wrong with either of the three in your situation. but I feel that the DWS creeps ahead of the firestones as an all-around tire

The General G Max's are a decent tire until they start to wear out. Then they will get so noisy you will think you have a bad wheel bearing. Great price but that is why they are cheaper:(

I have driven the general as-05's in light snow and they are fine. I have not experienced the noise problem.
Since you are just window shopping right now, I would time your purchase to take advantage of any rebates. General runs 2-3 per year. Not sure about firestone and conti. Usually it's $100 for a 4 tire purchase. |

Out of that list... Conti's by far.
I had BFG Comp 2 A/S+ on my SS, and they were good to go, also.

Of the prices he was quoted, the Conti's are probably the best bet. Not sure why the quote is so high for the generals. i got mine for about $800 from either tirerack or discount tire, plus another $100 to mount/balance. Plus I got a rebate either for $70 or $100. Slightly higher pricing for my BFG's, which I also bought during a rebate period. |
